Texans Re-Sign Jerry Hughes

The Houston Texans re-signed veteran defensive end Jerry Hughes on Monday, according to NFL insider Ari Meirov. The 35-year-old is heading into his 15th NFL season, but he'll likely act as a rotational pass-rusher after the team signed Danielle Hunter to play on the opposite side of Will Anderson Jr. this offseason. Hughes has 69.5 sacks and 19 forced fumbles in 218 games with the Indianapolis Colts, Buffalo Bills, and Texans. Should Hunter or Anderson Jr. have to miss time, he could become a major contributor to one of the league's fastest-rising teams.

Jerry Hughes Signs With Texans

Free-agent defensive end Jerry Hughes signed an undisclosed deal with the Houston Texans on Tuesday, according to a source. Hughes has missed just one game in the last decade while recording two double-digit sack seasons and 82 tackles for loss in his career. He will also be returning home as a Houston native who starred at TCU in college. The 33-year-old veteran pass-rusher was originally the 31st overall pick by the Indianapolis Colts in 2010. He spent the first three years of his career with the Colts before spending the next nine seasons with the Buffalo Bills. Hughes hasn't had a double-digit sack season since 2014, and he had just 18 tackles (eight solo), seven QB hits and two sacks in 17 games for Buffalo in 2021.

Jerry Hughes On Track In Recovery From Surgeries

Buffalo Bills defensive end Jerry Hughes (groin, wrist), who has never missed a game with the Bills since joining the team in 2013, is on track in his recovery from multiple offseason surgeries. Everything seems to be on track, going along well with my rehab. Im still able to go to the facility four times a week, so Im just moving along quite well, Hughes said. Battling through his injuries in 2019, Hughes' numbers suffered with just 23 tackles (14 solo), six tackles for loss, nine QB hits and 4.5 sacks. The 31-year-old hasn't had double-digit sacks since 2014 with Buffalo, but he's a veteran presence and a tough grinder on the defensive line in what has become a very solid Bills Defense.

Jerry Hughes Has Wrist Surgery

Buffalo Bills defensive end Jerry Hughes (wrist) had surgery to fix torn ligaments in his wrist. Hughes revealed the injury after the playoff loss to the Texans in the wild-card round, and the league launched an investigation as to whether the Bills had violated the injury reporting policy since Hughes never appeared on the team's injury report with a wrist injury. Despite his wrist injury, Hughes didn't miss a game in 2019 and hasn't missed a single game since 2012. He recorded 23 total tackles (14 solo), 4.5 sacks and one fumble recovery for Buffalo's stout defense last season. Hughes should be recovered in time for training camp this summer.

Jerry Hughes Signs Extension

The Buffalo Bills signed defensive end Jerry Hughes to a two-year extension on Tuesday worth up to $23 million, according to a source. The deal includes $19.5 million guaranteed. The 30-year-old has only had double-digit sacks once back in his first season in Buffalo in 2013, but he's the heart and soul of the team's pass rush on the defensive line. Hughes had 37 tackles, seven sacks and three forced fumbles in 16 games for the Bills last year. He hasn't missed a game since 2011 with the Colts.

Jerry Hughes Is Back To Old Self

Buffalo Bills defensive end Jerry Hughes has been creating havoc for opposing offenses this season. Hughes was a monster along the Bills defensive line against the Vikings in Week 3. The ninth-year pro recorded one of the highest defensive grades by Pro Football Focus (93.4) on Sunday, as he was credited with a league-high nine hurries and 15 quarterback pressures. Overall, he registered one tackle, which was a sack, and a forced fumble in the game. Hughes, who is currently ranked as the top pass-rushing end and No. 7 overall in 2018 by PFF, has posted nine tackles (eight solos), six quarterback hits and two sacks through three games. The former TCU Horned Frog recorded 19.5 sacks in his first two seasons with the Bills (2013-14), but only had 15 over his previous three campaigns. While fantasy players should avoid the Bills defense as a unit, Hughes is someone who should be given a look for players that are in leagues that use individual defensive players.
