The Philadelphia Eagles signed free-agent quarterback Joe Callahan. Waived by the Green Bay Packers a few days earlier, Callahan went through waivers unclaimed. With Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles firmly planted as Carson Wentz's backup, Callahan will be little more than a camp arm for the defending Super Bowl champions.
The Green Bay Packers released quarterback Joe Callahan on Monday. Callahan was signed as an undrafted free agent two years ago. He had served as Green Bays third-string quarterback for each of the last two seasons. Callahan had previously played for Wesley College, a Division 3 school, before making a surprise push to make an NFL roster. Callahan was most likely cut to make room for quarterback Tim Boyle from Eastern Kentucky, who is expected to sign with the Packers. Callahan provided a nice story and had some respectable preseason showings. However, he lacks the talent to contribute on the field. With Green Bay trading for quarterback DeShone Kizer this offseason, the writing has been on the wall that there would likely be no room for Callahan on Green Bays roster in 2018.
Following an injury in Week 6 to starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay promoted practice squad quarterback Joe Callahan. Callahan simply does not have NFL level talent and has no business being on the field. There is no situation, in any circumstances, where you should add Joe Callahan. Green Bay is trying out other quarterbacks. They will likely replace Callahan as the backup to Brett Hundley with a free agent.
