John Cominsky News
The Detroit Lions claimed defensive lineman John Cominsky off waivers from the Atlanta Falcons on Tuesday, according to a league source. Cominsky was expected to have an expanded role in his fourth NFL season in 2022, but the Falcons decided to cut him last week instead. The 26-year-old could find playing time tougher to come by in Detroit after they just took pass-rusher Aidan Hutchinson second overall in the draft. Cominsky is expected to compete with Levi Onwuzurike and John Penisini, among others, in Detroit. In his three seasons with Atlanta, Cominsky racked up 41 tackles (19 solo), four tackles for loss, five QB hits, 1.5 sacks and two passes defensed in 27 games (one start).
The Atlanta Falcons released defensive end John Cominsky on Thursday. The move saves the team $965,000 against the 2022 salary cap. Cominsky played 27 games (one start) for the Falcons over the last three years and recorded 41 tackles (19 solo), four tackles for loss, five QB hits, 1.5 sacks, two passes defensed and a fumble recovery. The 26-year-old was primarily a rotational defensive lineman in Atlanta. Several injuries limited him to 59 defensive snaps over four games last season. Cominsky was originally a fourth-round pick by the Falcons in 2019 out of Charleston. His departure should open up a bigger role for Nick Thurman in 2022.
Atlanta Falcons defensive tackle/end John Cominsky (undisclosed) was placed on the leagues reserve/COVID-19 list Saturday, making him the second Falcon to hit the list this week. Despite his designation, Cominsky does not necessarily have to have tested positive for the virus, and there is currently no reason to believe that the Falcons/Vikings contest scheduled for Sunday is in danger of not occurring. Cominsky has been lightly utilized this season along the Atlanta defensive front, but his loss will further zap the depth of a unit that shouldnt be on fantasy managers radars in any case. Check back ahead of kickoff to confirm that Atlanta will be taking the field Sunday despite the designations.
