Buccaneers Claim Jordan Leggett Off Waivers

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers claimed tight end Jordan Leggett off waivers from the Jets on Tuesday, according to a source. The third-year professional was a fifth-round pick out of Clemson in 2017 and spent his rookie season on Injured Reserve. Leggett made four starts in 15 games last season for Gang Green and had 14 receptions for 114 yards and a touchdown. In Tampa, he'll struggle for consistent playing time behind O.J. Howard and Cameron Brate, so you can avoid Leggett in all fantasy formats.

Jordan Leggett Inactive

New York Jets tight end Jordan Leggett is inactive in Week 2 against the Dolphins. Leggett is a healthy scratch and is behind tight ends Eric Tomlinson, Neal Sterling and rookie Christopher Herndon IV. Leggett is obviously not worth owning in fantasy leagues.

Chris Herndon, Jordan Leggett Head Up Tight Ends

The New York Jets elected to keep tight ends Chris Herndon, Jordan Leggett, Eric Tomlinson and Neal Sterling after announcing their 53-man roster over the weekend. The surprise was not that they retained four tight ends, but that Clive Walford was cut loose. He ended up being productive in training camp and the preseason, so he's likely to land with another organization. Herndon and Leggett are both mid-round draft picks by the team over the past two years, so they were chosen to head up the corps. Herndon is likely to start, but he should only be a treated as a low-end TE2 until further notice. The others have an uphill battle to fantasy relevance.

Chris Herndon Could Be Difference Maker At Tight End

New York Jets rookie tight end Chris Herndon, who has a mix of power, elusiveness and toughness, could be a difference maker for the team at the position in 2018. He's competing with four others at the position, but the Jets really like him and believe he will rise above the pack and produce. The team is in love with him, according to people familiar with the team's affinity for Herndon. He can run after the catch and is a solid in-line blocker. Hes all ball, tight ends coach Jimmie Johnson said Monday. Hes always focused on football. Hes more of a focused or serious dude. He doesnt have a whole lot of nonsense doesnt want to play (around) too much. I try to lighten the mood with him every now and then, but he just loves to compete. He loves playing football. Thats good to have that type of person in the room. Herndon's final college season was cut short by injury, but he excels in yards after the catch and could compete with Jordan Leggett for the main pass-catching role this year. He averaged 9.3 yards after the catch and forced nine missed tackles on 40 catches last year. Herndon had experience with a pro-style offense in college and should be a good fit for offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates' west coast scheme. The fourth-round pick could become a late-round pick in deeper leagues if he proves worthy of a starting job this preseason.

Jordan Leggett's Knee Issues Behind Him

New York Jets tight ends coach Jimmie Johnson said tight end Jordan Leggett's knee issues are behind him after he missed all of 2017. The Jets will give him a long look to compete for the main pass-catching role that Austin Seferian-Jenkins had last season. However, rookie Chris Herndon is also in the mix after catching 40 passes for 477 yards and four touchdowns in college. Herndon has been praised for his in-line blocking, though, and figures to be more of a blocker than pass catcher. Leggett is the favorite to see most of the passing targets, but he's nothing more than a weak TE2 option.

Jordan Leggett, Chris Herndon Expected To Split Time

New York Jets tight ends Jordan Leggett and Chris Herndon are expected to battle for the starting job in training camp, but with no standout in the tight end room, both players may split time equally this year. Leggett missed all of last season with a knee injury and Herndon is coming off an injury of his own, so neither are very attractive fantasy options in a Jets offense that has questions at quarterback. Eric Tomlinson is the third tight end, but he's mainly useful for blocking.

Jordan Leggett Trying To Prove His Health

New York Jets tight end Jordan Leggett, who missed all of his rookie season after injuring his right knee in the preseason finale, says he is between 90 and 100 percent healthy entering mandatory minicamp this week. Assuming he is healthy, Leggett will compete with rookie Chris Herndon for starting tight end duties in 2018. Leggett's knee surgery was just a cleanup, and he was adamant that he didn't have any torn ligaments. He wore a brace on his knee during organized team activities and will "probably" continue to do so. New York's competition at tight end will be settled in training camp, but Leggett has a leg up on the job. Still, he's nothing more than a dart throw as a TE2 in deeper formats.

Jordan Leggett May Have Leg Up On Starting Job

New York Jets tight end Jordan Leggett, the fifth-rounder in 2017 that missed all of last season due to a knee injury, figures to have the leg up on the starting tight end gig in 2018, although he'll be competing with Chris Herndon and Clive Walford. Herndon was drafted in the fourth round last month. Herndon is also coming off a torn MCL and will probably be limited in offseason workouts. Leggett has upside, but he has yet to play an NFL snap and will have to prove himself first before fantasy owners take notice.
