The Minnesota Vikings cut quarterback Jordan Ta'amu on Monday. The Vikings just added Ta'amu at training camp a week ago, but they didn't see enough from him in that limited time to justify keeping him on their final 53-man roster to open the 2023 regular season. Kirk Cousins is the team's obvious starter, with veteran Nick Mullens backing him up and rookie Jaren Hall set to serve as the No. 3 signal-caller. The 25-year-old Ta'amu looked good in the XFL, but he'll now search for another opportunity at the NFL level with a little over a week before Week 1 kicks off.
The Minnesota Vikings signed free-agent quarterback Jordan Ta'amu to an undisclosed deal on Monday and waived outside linebacker Curtis Weaver in a corresponding move. The Vikings are adding a little more competition for the backup role behind starter Kirk Cousins with the 2023 regular season quickly approaching. Ta'amu will now compete for a roster spot with Nick Mullens and rookie Jaren Hall for the rest of training camp and the preseason. The 25-year-old Ta'amu was impressive for the DC Defenders in the XFL this year, throwing for 1,894 yards, 14 touchdowns and only three interceptions while adding 298 rushing yards and three more touchdowns on the ground.
The Detroit Lions have signed quarterback Jordan Ta'amu, who spent the 2020 season on the Chiefs practice squad. Ta'amu was a successful quarterback during the XFL's revival, but it's not clear if that production will translate to an NFL field at any point. Ta'amu actually spent brief time on the Lions practice squad in December between stints with the Chiefs. Detroit's got Jared Goff at quarterback and a couple of banged-up backups, so there's not really a path here for Ta'amu when it comes to playing time. He shouldn't be rostered in any fantasy formats, unless you have an XFL dynasty league somewhere.
The Houston Texans signed quarterback Jordan Ta'amu on Wednesday. With A.J. McCarron (thumb) likely out for the preseason, Ta'amu is nothing more than an extra body to play in preseason games, so this move can be ignored in all season-long formats. The biggest impact comes in preseason DFS contests, as Joe Webb won't be forced to play three-plus quarters like he would have been without the signing. The former Ole Miss quarterback passed for almost 4000 yards last season and could put up decent numbers if he plays in Thursday's preseason opener.
