Falcons Sign KeeSean Johnson

The Atlanta Falcons signed former Arizona Cardinals and San Francisco 49ers wide receiver KeeSean Johnson to an undisclosed deal on Wednesday. The Falcons can never have too much receiver depth after losing Calvin Ridley to a year-long suspension and Russell Gage in free agency in the offseason, but Johnson will merely be trying to win a spot on the roster to open the 2022 season. The 25-year-old was cut by the Niners on Monday. The former sixth-round selection by the Arizona Cardinals in 2019 spent the 2021 season with the Philadelphia Eagles, but he didn't play in a regular season game. In two years with the Cardinals, Johnson had 36 catches on 65 targets for 360 yards and one touchdown in 18 games (five starts).

Cardinals Cut KeeSean Johnson

The Arizona Cardinals cut wide receiver KeeSean Johnson on Monday. Johnson spent two years in Arizona. He was drafted in the sixth round of the 2019 draft and started five games, racking up 36 catches for 360 yards and a touchdown. Johnson competed with Andy Isabella, Greg Dortch, and Antoine Wesley for the fifth wide receiver spot. Isabella will likely win that battle when it's all said and done. As for Johnson, he will hit the free agency market in hopes of signing with another club. Some teams needing a fifth or sixth wide receiver could give Johnson an opportunity as the season begins.

KeeSean Johnson Could See Increased Role In Week 17

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver KeeSean Johnson could be in line for an expanded role in the team's Week 17 game against the Los Angeles Rams. The team will be without both Larry Fitzgerald (groin) and Christian Kirk (COVID-19) this week, making Johnson the team's likely No. 2 receiver with Andy Isabella as their No. 3. DeAndre Hopkins should be in line for a massive workload, but quarterback Kyler Murray might find himself needing to trust other receivers as well and Johnson is the most likely beneficiary. The Rams have the league's top pass defense, so things won't be easy for Johnson, but he might be worth a dart throw in daily leagues if you need someone cheap to fill out your lineup.

Andy Isabella, Hakeem Butler, KeeSean Johnson In Team's Plans

Arizona Cardinals wide receivers Andy Isabella (a second-round pick in 2019), Hakeem Butler (fourth round) and KeeSean Johnson (sixth round) didn't have very positive rookie seasons last year, but the team continues to believe in their abilities. "We liked a lot of the receivers in the draft," head coach Kliff Kingsbury said, "but we also like the guys we took last year." There may still be upside in each of the trio, but the fact remains that DeAndre Hopkins, Christian Kirk and Larry Fitzgerald will command the vast majority of the 2020 passing targets, leaving Isabella, Butler and Johnson with scraps. But there could be opportunity, considering Kingsbury's willingness to play four receivers at a time. Still, the trio of second-year wideouts in Arizona aren't really attractive in redraft leagues going into 2020.

KeeSean Johnson's Snaps Could Take A Hit

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver KeeSean Johnson's offensive snaps could take a hit in his second season with the addition of DeAndre Hopkins to the receivers room. The sixth-round pick in 2019 finished the season with five straight inactives, but he had a great preseason and has a bright future. Johnson finished his rookie season with only 21 catches for 187 yards and a touchdown. He can certainly learn a ton from both Larry Fitzgerald and Hopkins in 2020 as he continues to develop, but it's hard to picture him taking a huge second-year leap now that Hopkins is in the fold. For now, Johnson is strictly a hold in dynasty/keeper formats.

KeeSean Johnson A Healthy Scratch

Arizona Cardinals rookie wide receiver Keesean Johnson is a healthy scratch for Week 13 against the Rams with running back Chase Edmonds returning to the game-day roster. The first-year wideout doesn't have more than three receptions in the 10 games he's played in this year, and he's gone for only 187 yards and one touchdown. There is long-term potential in Arizona with quarterback Kyler Murray throwing him passes, but Johnson predictably hasn't been much of a redraft asset in 2019. Larry Fitzgerald and Christian Kirk remain the club's top two wideouts.

KeeSean Johnson Scores

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Keesean Johnson had two catches for 22 yards and his first NFL touchdown Thursday night against the San Francisco 49ers. The touchdown was nice, but he has done very little despite numerous opportunities due to injuries. Keep him on the watch list because the Cards' next matchup is a great one for receivers against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

KeeSean Johnson Not Worth The Risk

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Keesean Johnson has done very little in wide receiver Christian Kirk's (ankle) absence, but there's a chance Kirk misses Week 8 as well. Johnson has seen steady targets, but he has little to show for it. He's worth stashing in dynasty leagues, but he's not worth the risk in traditional formats.

KeeSean Johnson Logs Just One Catch

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Keesean Johnson had just one catch for six yards in Week 7 against the New York Giants. Johnson was targeted just twice in the game, and he isn't worth owning except in long-term leagues.

KeeSean Johnson Not An Option

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Keesean Johnson has just 14 catches for 131 yards on the season despite a number of injuries that opened doors in the offense. He has a good matchup against the New York Giants this week, but he simply hasn't produced enough to warrant owning outside of dynasty formats.
