The Pittsburgh Steelers have released running back Knile Davis according to a report from Ian Rapoport. While the move hasn't been made official yet, it is expected to be finalized by Saturday. Davis was likely deemed expendable with star running back Le'Veon Bell returning to the team on Friday. Even without Davis, the Steelers still have running backs Bell, rookie James Conner, and Fitzgerald Toussaint on the roster. Davis will look to catch on as a backup elsewhere once the transaction is finalized.
Knile Davis is Unlikely to Play Significant Role in Week 8; Don’t Start Him
Even at its most complex, Green Bay's offensive scheme is pretty simple and antiquated. But The Packers have been more successful this year when they have played at the upper end of the complexity spectrum, something they have been relying on more recently. At kickoff, Knile Davis will have been on The Packers for 13 days, which is not long enough to learn the intricacies of the playbook. Don't expect Green Bay to dumb down their offense in order to get Davis more involved. Davis' highest usage will likely come on special teams with Don Jackson and Ty Montgomery taking most of the RB snaps. Although Davis is a solid long term prospect, don't think about starting him until he has shown something.
Knile Davis, Darrin Reaves Carry The Load In Potential Roster Spot Battle
Besides the fact that Kansas City's top two running backs remain out as they recover from injuries, starters rarely play in preseason finales. This game usually serves as one final chance for roster hopefuls to impress. Incredibly, Knile Davis appears to be one of these hopefuls. The man who began last year's playoffs with a thunderous, 106-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, had 14 carries for 58 yards last night. He ran for a touchdown and also went on to catch a pass. Darrin Reaves, meanwhile, had three more carries, but only finished with five more yards and went on to lose a fumble. If the Chiefs are to keep four running backs, these two made their final cases last night. If not, both could be on their way out of Kansas City.
