Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Kyle Williams (knee) worked with a trainer on a side field at the team's facility Monday. He remains week-to-week due to a knee injury, but apparently he is making some progress. Williams was joined on the sidelines by safety Kelcie McCray, as well as defensive end Trent Murphy, two defenders battling undisclosed injuries. Wide receiver Brandon Reilly (ribs) was wearing a non-contact jersey Monday due to an ailment to his ribs. The absence of Williams is the biggest news, however, as he is needed if the defense wishes to avoid being ranked in the bottom third of the league. Even with Williams the Buffalo DST is viewed only as a streaming option for later in the season when bye weeks pop up.
Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Kyle Williams (knee) has a better outlook after it has been confirmed that there is no ACL tear. This at least brings the possibility of a return for the 2018 season. Bills head coach Sean McDermott is calling this a "week-to-week" situation. The Bills will call upon rookie third-round pick Harrison Phillips to fill the vacated position. It won't be an easy task, as Williams has been a consistent veteran leader for the organization. In 2013, he had his best season with 10.5 sacks and 68 combined tackles. More recently in 2016, Williams had 64 tackles and five sacks. Just last year, his 12th and least productive season, he only registered 41 tackles and three sacks. This is yet another setback to the defensive line, as Trent Murphy (groin) and Marquavius Lewis (ankle) are already nursing ailments. Newly-signed Tyruun Walker and Albert Havili will have to step up. This leads us to believe that more signings could be in store in the not-so-distant future.
Sammy Watkins, Marcell Dareus, Kyle Williams All Cleared for Practice
The Bills got some much needed help injected back into their lineup today. Top wideout Sammy Watkins, along with stud defense linemen Marcell Dareus and Kyle Williams have all been cleared to practice after passing their physicals on Monday morning. The team has been overrun with injuries early in training camp, so the return of some top of the line starters is great news for the Buffalo Bills. Watkins was returning from offseason foot surgery, and has been running at full speed for the past several weeks. Dareus and Williams also underwent offseason surgery, but are both healthy enough now to be a full go at training camp. Watkins is expected to be a huge performer for the Bills offense, and if healthy, should justify his third-round draft status.
