Former NFL running back LeGarrette Blount announced his retirement on Instagram on Saturday. The three-time Super Bowl champion last played in 2018 and announced the news on his 34th birthday. Blount had a bruising rushing style in his nine seasons in the league with six different teams. He began his career as an undrafted free agent out of Oregon with the Titans. Blount spent each of his final two seasons with the Eagles and the Lions. He won two of his Super Bowl rings with the Patriots and one with Philadelphia when they beat the Patriots. He'll finish his career with 6,306 rushing yards and 56 touchdowns. In 11 playoff games he had 600 yards and 11 scores.
Veteran running back LeGarrette Blount announced his retirement from the NFL on Saturday, ending a nine-year career that ended three times with a Super Bowl victory. Blount's best individual season came in 2016 when he led the NFL in rushing touchdowns (18) with the Patriots. Known for his bruising rushing style, Blount carried considerable fantasy intrigue when on the field due to his propensity for receiving carries near the goal line. Having been out of the league since an '18 stint with the Lions, Blount was firmly off all season-long radars, but he can now receive an official tip of the cap from fantasy managers for his years of production.
The Detroit Lions are not expected to re-sign impending unrestricted free-agent running back LeGarrette Blount this offseason. Tight ends Levine Toilolo and Luke Willson and defensive lineman Ricky Jean Francois are also expected to hit the open market. The 32-year-old Blount had 154 carries for only 418 yards (career-low 2.7 yards per carry) and five touchdowns in his only season in Detroit. He had a whopping 18 touchdowns with the Patriots in 2016, but that was an outlier season for the former Oregon Duck, as he never topped six scores in any other year. He doesn't have much left at this point in his career and is strictly a short-yardage, goal-line back.
Detroit Lions wide receiver Kenny Golladay (chest) has been ruled out for Week 17 against the Packers, while running back LeGarrette Blount (knee) is active. It leaves quarterback Matthew Stafford with a bare cupboard of playmakers in a meaningless season finale. T.J. Jones, Brandon Powell and Andy Jones will be his receivers. It's best to avoid Detroit's offense altogether in fantasy on Sunday. Blount is sharing touches with Zach Zenner and Theo Riddick in the backfield and is averaging less than 3.0 yards per carry on the year. Avoid him as well.
Kenny Golladay Out, LeGarrette Blount Active In Week 17

Kenny Golladay, LeGarrette Blount Questionable For Week 17
Detroit Lions wide receiver Kenny Golladay (chest) and running back LeGarrette Blount (knee) were both limited in practice on Friday and are questionable for Week 17 against the Packers. In a meaningless game, both players could easily be held out. However, if Golladay plays, he's really the only Detroit skill player worth using in fantasy lineups as a WR2. He had four catches for 98 yards and a touchdown in their previous meeting. Blount is averaging under 3.0 yards per carry this year and is one to avoid if he plays, as he'll once again share snaps with Zach Zenner and Theo Riddick. Tight end Luke Willson (concussion) has also been ruled out.
Detroit Lions running back LeGarrette Blount (knee) was listed as a limited participant in Wednesday's practice. Blount has been playing through injuries in recent weeks and remains highly unproductive for Detroit. He ran the ball 11 times for just 29 yards in Week 16 and is averaging 2.8 yards per carry this year. He should not be in any starting lineups for the final game of the regular season and continues to lose touches to Zach Zenner and Theo Riddick.
Detroit Lions running back LeGarrette Blount took 11 carries for 29 yards and caught just two of four targets for negative five yards. He led the team in carries but it was Zach Zenner that made the most of his opportunities, rushing for 45 yards. Blount isn't a viable fantasy option due to the emergence of Zenner, and that will continue into Week 17 for a matchup with the Green Bay Packers who have been solid at limiting opposing running backs this season.
Kenny Golladay, Matthew Stafford, LeGarrette Blount Active
Detroit Lions wide receiver Kenny Golladay (chest), quarterback Matthew Stafford (back) and running back LeGarrette Blount (calf) are all active in Week 16 against the Vikings despite being questionable to play. Golladay is the lone offensive weapon that fantasy owners can start during championship weekend, even in a tough matchup. Stafford continues to play through back issues and is a low-end QB2 with so few playmakers around him. Blount is averaging under 3.0 yards per carry this year and is splitting touches with Zach Zenner in the backfield. Avoid him if you can.
Kenny Golladay, Matthew Stafford, LeGarrette Blount Questionable
Detroit Lions wide receiver Kenny Golladay (chest), quarterback Matthew Stafford (back) and running back LeGarrette Blount (calf) were all limited in practice on Friday and are questionable for Week 16 against the Vikings. Receiver Bruce Ellington (hamstring) has been ruled out for the second straight week. Golladay is really the only skill player on this fading team that you can trust during fantasy championship week. He'll be a WR2. Stafford has been battling back issues but continues to play. In a tough matchup with not much around him, he should be avoided. Blount is purely a vulture running back near the goal line and that's it. He's also been losing touches to Zach Zenner in the backfield in recent weeks.
