The Philadelphia Eagles all-time leading rusher, running back LeSean McCoy, announced his retirement on Thursday. He will sign a one-day contract with Philadelphia to officially retire with them on Friday. The 33-year-old spent 12 seasons in the NFL with the Eagles, Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. McCoy made the Pro Bowl six times and was a first-team All-Pro twice (both with Philly). The second-round pick in 2009 will retire as one of only five running backs in NFL history with at least 11,000 rushing yards and 500 catches. In his prime, Shady was an absolute beast for fantasy managers, especially in point-per-reception leagues. He finishes with 11,102 rushing yards, 73 rushing TDs, 518 receptions, 3,898 receiving yards and 16 receiving TDs.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers impending free-agent running back LeSean McCoy, who has won two Super Bowl rings in the last two years with the Chiefs and Buccaneers despite playing a single snap in either championship game, wants to continue playing in 2021. McCoy is unlikely to return to Tampa, but he wants to play for a contender if he's to keep lacing up his cleats on Sundays. The veteran back had 101 carries for 465 yards and four touchdowns for the Chiefs in 2019, but he ran the ball only 10 times for the Buccaneers last season in a tertiary role behind Leonard Fournette and Ronald Jones II. It's fair to wonder if the 33-year-old has anything left in the tank, and if he does continue playing next season, it'll likely remain in a backup role. McCoy won't be on the fantasy radar entering 2021.
Tampa Bay Deems Ke'Shawn Vaughn Inactive, LeSean McCoy In
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers backfield is shaping up to feature Leonard Fournette, Ronald Jones II, and LeSean McCoy for Sunday's Divisional Round showdown with the Saints. Head coach Bruce Arians is set to stick with Fournette as the starter, with Jones planned to be rotated in; that leaves McCoy as the team's third RB option, one that cannot be relied upon for DFS purposes. Ke'Shawn Vaughn has been utilized in bunches this year, including receiving five carries during the Wild Card round, although his lost fumble likely has an impact on his inactive status Sunday. The Bucs' backfield rotation will continue to be a point of focus should the team advance to the NFC Championship Game next Sunday versus the Packers, but for this week, it'll likely be a Fournette/Jones split with a dash of McCoy, if necessary.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back LeSean McCoy (illness) has been downgraded to out for the wild-card playoff game against the Washington Football Team on Saturday night. The team also elevated cornerback Herb Miller, linebacker Deone Bucannon, offensive lineman Ted Larsen and defensive lineman Benning Potoa'e from the practice squad to the active roster. McCoy was unlikely to see much work against Washington anyway while working behind Ronald Jones II and Leonard Fournette. With Shady officially out, rookie Ke'Shawn Vaughn will be elevated to the No. 3 back Saturday night. The 32-year-old McCoy had just 10 carries for 31 yards and 15 receptions for 101 yards in 10 games in 2020 for the Bucs in a limited role.
Chris Godwin, LeSean McCoy Ruled Out For Thursday Night
Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receivers Chris Godwin (hamstring) and Justin Watson (shoulder) and running back LeSean McCoy (ankle) have been ruled out for the Thursday night game against the Bears. Godwin didn't play in the Week 4 win over the Chargers and wasn't ready to go on a short week. The Bears have allowed the third-fewest fantasy points per game to opposing wideouts this year, but No. 1 wideout Mike Evans remains a must-start in fantasy, especially with Godwin missing another contest. Scotty Miller had five catches (seven targets) for 83 yards and his first touchdown of the year last week, so he'll be in play as a deep league flex. With McCoy out and Leonard Fournette unlikely to play again, it'll once again be Ronald Jones II and Ke'Shawn Vaughn sharing backfield duties. Jones will be in play as an RB2, while Vaughn has some flex appeal in deep PPR leagues.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back LeSean McCoy (ankle) suffered a Grade 2 ankle sprain in the Week 4 win over the Chargers, according to a source. The injury will most likely keep him out of Thursday night's matchup against the Bears in Week 5. Consider McCoy week-to-week for now. Shady just hasn't been much of a factor in Tampa in a backfield that also includes Leonard Fournette, Ronald Jones II and rookie Ke'Shawn Vaughn. In four games this year, McCoy has two carries for minus-two yards and nine catches on 13 targets for 55 yards. Fournette sat out of Week 4 with an injury, allowing the rookie Vaughn to catch two passes for 22 yards and his first touchdown. Vaughn will have some deep-league PPR appeal with McCoy out in the short term, especially if Fournette misses another game, too.
LeSean McCoy Questionable To Return Against Chargers
Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back LeSean McCoy (ankle) is questionable to return in Week 4 against the Chargers. The Buccaneers are already without Leonard Fournette, so if McCoy is unable to return, they'll have to rely heavily on Ronald Jones II the rest of the way.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back LeSean McCoy was targeted seven times in Week 2, which is just enough times to make him semi-interesting as a rosterable option in deep leagues. His complete lack of involvement in the run game and 18 percent snap rate show just how risky of an option he is, though, and he should be barely on the fantasy radar in Week 3 against the Broncos. Maybe in a 16-team league, you throw the dart at him and hope the targets continue, but otherwise steer clear of the veteran rusher.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back LeSean McCoy hauled in five of seven targets for 26 receiving yards in Week 2. McCoy also handled one carry, though he went backwards on it. The veteran back was expected to occupy some sort of pass-catching role for Tampa Bay and he was able to do that well, helping to fill the void in the offense left by the absence of Chris Godwin (head). With Leonard Fournette and Ronald Jones II occupying most of the backfield touches, McCoy is mostly an afterthought for fantasy purposes.
Indications are that Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back LeSean McCoy will still play an integral part in the offense this year, particularly in the passing game and on third downs. Color us skeptical after the Bucs inked Leonard Fournette to a one-year deal on Wednesday night. Tampa has talked up Ronald Jones II during training camp and also have Dare Ogunbowale and rookie Ke'Shawn Vaughn who can contribute on passing downs. This backfield got really messy with the Fournette signing, and it could cause fantasy managers headaches in the early going as we try to sort this situation out. Shady is in the twilight of his career at this point and is likely to only receive a handful of touches (if that) per week.
