The Philadelphia Eagles signed safety Lewis Cine from the Buffalo Bills practice squad on Wednesday, according to NFL insider Ari Meirov. Cine is a former first-round pick by the Minnesota Vikings in 2022 out of Georgia. The 25-year-old has played in just 11 games over the last three seasons, including one game this year with Buffalo. Overall, he has tallied just one tackle. Cine joins former Bulldog teammates Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, Nolan Smith, Nakobe Dean, and Kelee Ringo on Philadelphia's stop unit. It would be a surprise if he plays meaningful snaps in the secondary, but he could contribute on special teams in the postseason.
The Buffalo Bills are signing safety Lewis Cine to the practice squad after he was released by the Minnesota Vikings at the 53-man roster cutdown deadline. It was first reported that Cine was set to sign with the New York Jets, but it appears he has changed his mind and is joining another AFC East organization. Cine, a 2022 first-round pick out of Georgia, played in just 10 games for Minnesota in two seasons and racked up just one tackle. Clearly, things didn't work out, but Buffalo is taking a cheap flier on the former first-team All-SEC performer.
Minnesota Vikings rookie safety Lewis Cine suffered a lower leg fracture during Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints in London. Cine will stay in London and be operated on by the Vikings' medical staff before flying back to the United States. Between injuries and depth at the safety position, Cine has struggled to find playing time in his rookie season. This latest setback is another devastating blow for the 22-year-old.
Minnesota Vikings safety Lewis Cine (leg) was carted off the field after an ugly play during the Week 4 matchup against the New Orleans Saints. The rookie safety was put on a backboard and onto a cart before exiting the field. The entire Vikings surrounded Cine in what looked to be a horrendous leg injury. He will be transported to a nearby hospital. The organization should give updates on Cine later in the day. Although, the 22-year-old is likely to miss significant time after that incident.
The Minnesota Vikings and first-round safety Lewis Cine agreed to a four-year, fully guaranteed $11.494 million deal on Wednesday, according to his agency. Cine was the final pick of the first round of this year's draft at 32nd overall. The Georgia product could have injury concerns at the next level because of his slight frame at 6-foot-2, 199 pounds, but he has plenty of speed to spare -- he ran a 4.37-second 40-yard dash. Cine is very explosive and could be fantasy relevant in IDP leagues sooner than later while working alongside Harrison Smith in Minnesota's secondary.
Lewis Cine Goes To Minnesota To Close Out First Round
The Minnesota Vikings drafted Georgia safety Lewis Cine with the No. 32 overall pick and final selection of the first round in the 2022 NFL draft on Thursday night. He becomes the fifth defender out of Georgia to be selected in the first round of this year's draft. Like the pick before him at No. 31 to the Cincinnati Bengals, Cine is slight of frame for a safety at 6-foot-2, 199 pounds, but he ran an impressive 4.37-second 40-yard dash at the combine in February. He could stand to bulk up a bit, because he's already very explosive and has the pursuit and tackling ability to come up and defend the run, if necessary. Cine was named MVP of the National Championship game last year and had 73 tackles, 10 passes defensed and one interception overall in 2021. The ferocious and hard-hitting safety has the tackling ability to become fantasy relevant in IDP leagues quickly.
