Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Luis Perez completed 13 of his 20 pass attempts for 78 yards, no scores, and no interceptions in the Chargers second preseason game. He took one sack and lost a fumble. Perez and Easton Stick are presumably competing for the backup quarterback job in Los Angeles, a role that could be immediately relevant since Justin Herbert is dealing with a foot injury and Week 1 quickly approaches. Perez was very much a game manager in this one, and that's more or less his upside. Even if he gets the job and plays in the regular season, he won't be much of a fantasy asset.
The Los Angeles Chargers signed quarterback Luis Perez on Tuesday, the team announced on X. The 29-year-old has had brief stints with three NFL squads, but he has played most of his professional career in the USFL, XFL, and UFL. The Texas A&M Commerce product spent the spring with the Arlington Renegades and led the UFL in passing yards (2,307) and passing touchdowns (18). With Justin Herbert (foot) banged up and out of action, this is likely a pure depth move as Perez joins a quarterback room with Easton Stick and Max Duggan. It would be a surprise if Perez stuck around and made the team's 53-man roster, but anything is possible at the backup QB spot.
Quarterback Luis Perez signed with the Rams on Saturday. This will be his second stop in L.A. after joining the team as an undrafted free agent in 2018, spending some time with the practice squad. Since then, he had stops in the Alliance of American Football and XFL before most recently suiting up for the New Jersey Generals of the USFL. Nonetheless, whether or not Perez makes the Rams' Week 1 roster won't mean much for fantasy managers.
Free-agent quarterback Luis Perez has signed with the Detroit Lions. Perez has played in the AAF and had a one-month stint with the Eagles earlier this year. Perez will fall into the fourth spot on the Lions quarterback depth chart with Stafford, Josh Johnsonand Tom Savage ahead of him. With Savage just back from injury and Johnson having a fairly productive preseason, the path to a regular season roster spot for Perez seems difficult. Perez has no fantasy value.
