The Carolina Panthers hired former seven-time Pro Bowl linebacker Luke Kuechly as a pro scout on Thursday. His new role will require plenty of film watching and advance scouting. Kuechly, who was also a five-time first-team All-Pro, retired after the 2019 season mainly because of multiple head injuries suffered throughout his career. He posted 100-plus combined tackles in every single one of his eight seasons in the NFL and also had 12.5 sacks, 18 interceptions and 66 passes defensed. In his prime, Kuechly was one of the best sideline-to-sideline linebackers. He turned 29 years old this past April. It's a shame we didn't get to see more of Captain America on the football field, but he should be a tremendous asset to Carolina's scouting team.
Former Carolina Panthers star linebacker Luke Kuechly officially was placed on the Reserve/Retired list on Tuesday, according to a source. By waiting until after June 1, the Panthers can spread Kuechly's salary cap hit over the next two years and save around $6 million against the cap in 2020. Only 29 years old, Kuechly was forced to hang up his cleats early due to head injuries, but he was one of the best sideline-to-sideline linebackers in the game during his eight seasons in the NFL. Drafted ninth overall by Carolina in 2012 out of Boston College, Kuechly went on to seven Pro Bowl selections and five first-team All-Pro honors. He compiled 1,092 combined tackles (690 solo), 12.5 sacks, 75 tackles for loss, 31 QB hits, 18 interceptions, 66 passes defensed, seven forced fumbles and nine fumble recoveries in his decorated career.
Carolina Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly has really failed to make an impact in fantasy, and all of the injuries may be catching up to him. He's tied for 35th among linebackers in fantasy points the last five weeks with just 28 tackles (17 solo), two passes defended and an interception. The New Orleans Saints aren't a great matchup, but he could rack up a few tackles over the middle. Kuechly has regressed to a flex option in individual defensive player leagues.
Carolina Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly (knee) practiced in full on Wednesday. Kuechly had 11 tackles and two assists in the Week 1 win against the Cowboys and remains a strong IDP linebacker as long as he's healthy. The 27-year-old has had problems with head injuries in recent seasons and hasn't played a full year since 2014.
Carolina Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly (shoulder) passed his physical and is ready to go for training camp. The Panthers are likely to take it slow with Kuechly after he had offseason shoulder surgery, but he should be ready for the regular season. He missed only one game in 2017 after playing in a career-low 10 games in 2016 with concussion issues. When he's on the field, Kuechly is a tackline machine; he's recorded at least 102 tackles in each of his six seasons, but he carries a bit more risk in IDP leagues now due to his recent injury history.
Carolina Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly (shoulder) said he is on schedule in his rehab from shoulder surgery and hopes to be ready for training camp. When healthy, Kuechly is one of the best all-around linebackers in the league, but the problem for him has been staying on the field in recent years. He hasn't played a full season since 2014 and has had several scary head injuries that cost him time in recent seasons. Kuechly is a high-risk, high-reward IDP selection.
Luke Kuechly, Julius Peppers May Not Be Ready For OTAs
Carolina Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly (shoulder) and defensive end Julius Peppers (shoulder), who both had offseason shoulder surgeries to fix labrum tears in their right shoulders, may miss organized team activities up through minicamps. Peppers is probably entering the final year of his career, and although he was still effective in 2017, he's expected to be more of a part-time player in 2018, limiting his fantasy value. When Kuechly is on the field, he's still one of the most productive linebackers, but he also has an extensive concussion history and is a high-risk, high-reward IDP player.
Carolina Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly (shoulder) is recovering from shoulder surgery that kept him out of the Pro Bowl, according to a league source. The surgery was done on his right shoulder. Kuechly had left shoulder surgery for a torn labrum two years ago after the 2015 season. He remains one of the best all-around linebackers in the NFL, but injuries continue to be a problem, especially concussions. Carolina will probably play it cautious with him during offseason workouts, but the 26-year-old should be ready for training camp and the regular season in 2018. Kuechly is an injury risk but is still one of the most attractive linebackers in IDP leagues.
Carolina Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly will not participate in the Pro Bowl due to an undisclosed minor injury. It's Kuechly's fifth Pro Bowl selection, but he won't play in three straight due to injuries. Falcons linebacker Deion Jones will replace Kuechly. The Panthers linebacker played in 15 games in 2017 after sitting out nine games in 2015 and 2016 due to concussions. When healthy, he's one of the best all-around linebackers in the NFL, but concussions have become a real concern for him in recent years, and he's a big-time injury risk in IDP leagues going forward.
Carolina Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly (concussion) is on pace to return against the Bucs in Week 8, according to head coach Ron Rivera. However, Rivera cautioned that Kuechly still needs to clear the league's concussion protocol. Kuechly put in a full practice Wednesday, so that's great news. We'll have a better idea later in the week if he'll be able to return, and if he does, it'll be a big boost to Carolina's defense/special teams this weekend.
