Malcolm Mitchell Being Released

The New England Patriots will release wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell (knee) on Monday, according to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport. Mitchell had a procedure on his knee last month, but there was hope over the weekend that he could return after being seen at practice in pads. He had 32 catches for 401 yards and four touchdowns as a rookie in 2016 but didn't play at all due to knee issues last year. As of now, Eric Decker and Phillip Dorsett might have the leg up to seeing a lot of playing time to begin the year with Julian Edelman suspended for four games.

Malcolm Mitchell Returns To Practice

New England Patriots wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell (knee) was seen at practice on Saturday and is in pads. The Patriots could really use Mitchell healthy with Julian Edelman suspended to start the year and Jordan Matthews (hamstring) on Injured Reserve. He had a promising rookie season in 2016, but he was sidelined all last year with knee issues as well. Until he can get healthy and prove that he can carve out a nice role with Edelman out, Mitchell can be avoided in fantasy drafts.

Malcolm Mitchell Did Not Have Surgery

New England Patriots wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell (knee) had a procedure on his knee, but it wasn't surgery. The procedure was done to accelerate healing, and the Patriots have also been trying to trade him. Mitchell showed promise in his rookie year but missed all of last season with the knee issues and doesn't appear to be getting any healthier. At this point, he's a long shot to make the roster out of training camp.

Malcolm Mitchell Has Surgery On Knee

New England Patriots wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell (knee) had a procedure on his knee on Monday and isn't expected to be on the field for the start of training camp, according to a source. Mitchell's 2018 season could be in jeopardy after he missed all of last year with knee issues as well. He was on the roster bubble to begin with, so this latest injury setback could get Mitchell released eventually.

Malcolm Mitchell On The Trade Block

The New England Patriots are seeking a trade partner for wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell, according to sources. Mitchell had 32 catches in his rookie season in 2016, but knee issues have kept him out since, and he is likely on the roster bubble this summer, even with Julian Edelman slated to miss the first four games due to a suspension. Mitchell is unlikely to make an impact for the Patriots even if he's not traded and makes the team. You can avoid him in fantasy drafts.

Malcolm Mitchell, Kenny Britt On The Bubble

New England Patriots wide receivers Malcolm Mitchell and Kenny Britt are on the roster bubble heading into training camp, with Phillip Dorsett, Riley McCarron and Braxton Berrios also in danger of being cut. That's even with Julian Edelman suspended for the first four games. Mitchell, a former fourth-round pick, missed all of last year with a knee injury and must prove he's healthy in order to get a shot. Britt played in 12 games with the Browns and Pats last year and caught just 20 passes for two touchdowns. Mitchell is a better bet to make a fantasy impact in 2018.

Malcolm Mitchell Unsure If He'll Be Ready For Training Camp

New England Patriots wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell (knee) is unsure if he'll be ready for training camp next month. Mitchell was held out of organized team activities and minicamp and it's unclear if the Pats are just being cautious with him. The 25-year-old sat out all of last season due to his knee injury, but New England could use him for depth with Julian Edelman set to start the season on suspension. Until Mitchell proves he's healthy, he can be avoided by fantasy owners.

Malcolm Mitchell Hasn't Been On Field

New England Patriots wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell (knee), who missed all of last year with a knee injury, hasn't been spotted on the practice field the last two weeks. Mitchell was a fourth-round selection in 2016 and caught just 32 passes for 401 yards and four touchdowns in his rookie season, but injuries have mostly held him back. Even with Julian Edelman facing a four-game suspension to open the year, there's no guarantee Mitchell will be healthy enough to make some noise.

Malcolm Mitchell Expected To Be Ready For OTAs

New England Patriots wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell (knee) is expected to be on the field when organized team activities start in a few weeks. Mitchell missed all of last year with a knee injury after being hurt in training camp. Mitchell had 32 receptions for 401 yards and four scores in his rookie season in 2016, but right now he's too far buried on the receiver depth chart to have much of a fantasy impact to kick off the year.

Malcolm Mitchell Progressing

New England Patriots wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell (knee) said he is "feeling great." Mitchell spent all of 2017 on Injured Reserve with a mysterious knee issue, but he was able to practice late in the season before being shut down for good. "This offseason will be big," Mitchell said. "Obviously, I missed all of last season and I won't shy away from the importance of making sure I'm ready when we start OTAs." While the specifics of this injury are unclear, Mitchell has dealt with knee issues since college, making it impossible to take his availability for granted. Still, he showed enough as a rookie to remain a solid hold in dynasty formats.
