Dolphins
The Miami Dolphins signed veteran free-agent safety Marcus Maye to an undisclosed deal on Monday, according to a source. Maye will return to the AFC East after being taken in the second round (39th overall) by the New York Jets in 2017 out of Florida and spending the first five years of his NFL career in New York. He spent the last two campaigns playing for the New Orleans Saints and totaling 69 solo tackles, one sack, two interceptions, four pass breakups and a forced fumble in 17 starts. The 31-year-old veteran defensive back started just seven games last year due to a shoulder injury but appears to be healthy now and will give Miami some secondary depth in 2024. In his seven years in the NFL, Maye has a total of 409 tackles (288 solo), 4.5 sacks, 12 tackles for loss, eight picks, 28 pass breakups, five forced fumbles and one fumble recovery in 77 starts.

Marcus Maye To Visit With Titans
Former New Orleans Saints safety Marcus Maye (shoulder) is drawing interest from several teams in free agency and will visit with the Tennessee Titans on Monday, according to a source. Maye was released by the Saints to begin the new league year after playing in only seven games last year while picking up 37 tackles (27 solo), one sack and two interceptions. The 31-year-old has played in only 31 combined games over the last three seasons due to various injuries. The New York Jets originally took Maye in the second round of the 2017 draft out of Florida. He's going to need to prove that he's healthy for another team to take a chance on him as secondary depth. Maye has started all 77 games that he's appeared in over seven NFL seasons and has racked up 409 tackles (288 solo), 4.5 sacks, 12 tackles for loss, eight interceptions, 28 passes defended, five forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.

Saints To Release Marcus Maye
The New Orleans Saints informed safety Marcus Maye on Thursday that he will be released at the start of the new league year next month, according to sources. Maye has been injured each of the last three seasons, the last two with the Saints, and has played in a combined 23 games in that span, recording 99 solo tackles, two sacks, seven tackles for loss, two interceptions, six passes defensed and a forced fumble. In 2023 with the Saints, he started seven games and finished with 37 tackles (27 solo), one sack and two interceptions before succumbing to a shoulder injury. Cutting the 30-year-old former second-round pick of the New York Jets in 2017 should save the cost-cutting Saints around $7.2 million in salary cap space for 2024. Maye will just be hoping to stay healthy wherever he lands next.

Marcus Maye Suspended For Three Games
New Orleans Saints safety Marcus Maye has been suspended without pay for three games for violating the league's policy on substances of abuse. The earliest Maye will be able to return will be on Oct. 15 against the Houston Texans. It's a hit for the Saints secondary and one of the best defenses in the league early in 2023. With Maye set to miss the next three games, rookie Jordan Howden figures to see increased defensive snaps as a starter at safety for New Orleans. The 30-year-old Maye picked up 13 tackles (11 solo), one sack and an interception in the first two games against the Tennessee Titans and Carolina Panthers.

Marcus Maye Arrested Thursday
New Orleans Saints safety Marcus Maye was arrested Thursday morning for aggravated assault with a firearm, according to a source. His attorney said in a statement that Maye "vehemently denies the allegation." It's a big deal after the Saints signed him to a three-year, $28.5 million deal in free agency in order to be the starter opposite newcomer Tyrann Mathieu. The Saints secondary is deep, which is why they traded Chauncey Gardner-Johnson to the Philadelphia Eagles earlier this week. But suddenly their secondary could be a question mark heading into Week 1 of the regular season against the Atlanta Falcons if Maye is unable to play. Stay tuned for more updates on this situation.

Marcus Maye Agrees With Saints
Former New York Jets franchise-tagged safety Marcus Maye agreed to a three-year, $28.5 million deal with the New Orleans Saints on Tuesday, according to a source. The contract includes $15 million guaranteed. Maye played in only six games in his final season with the Jets and underwent successful surgery on a torn Achilles in November. It remains to be seen if the 29-year-old former second-round pick will be ready for the start of the 2022 season, but either way, the Saints are landing a big-ticket free agent to bolster their secondary. In 2020, Maye had a career-high 88 tackles (52 solo), four tackles for loss, two interceptions, 11 passes defensed, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and two sacks in 16 games for Gang Green.

Marcus Maye Done For The Season
New York Jets safety Marcus Maye (Achilles) suffered a torn Achilles in the Thursday night loss to the Indianapolis Colts and will miss the rest of the season. Maye went down with a non-contact injury in the second half on Thursday, and it didn't look good. It's extremely bad timing for the 28-year-old, who is in a contract year while playing the 2021 on the franchise tag. In six games played before his injury, Maye had recorded 46 tackles and one sack for Gang Green. Maye is unlikely to be back with the Jets in 2022, and his free-agent market will depend on how his recovery from the torn Achilles is going in the offseason. There's also the chance that the Jets decide to use the franchise tag on Maye again for next season. The Jets secondary is really vulnerable now with Lamarcus Joyner also out for the year with a torn triceps.

Marcus Maye Suffers Achilles Injury In Thursday's Loss
New York Jets defensive back Marcus Maye has an Achilles injury, and "it doesn't look good," said head coach Robert Saleh. He suffered a non-contact injury in the third quarter of Thursday's loss to the Indianapolis Colts. It would be a "huge" blow if Maye's injury is as bad as it looks, said Saleh. "I'm sick for him, it's not looking good." The 28-year-old will undergo further evaluation, but Maye could miss the rest of the season if he suffered a torn Achilles, which is feared. He racked up 46 tackles and one sack over six games in 2021. Sharrod Neasman should see an expanded role while Maye is sidelined. Stay tuned for further updates.

Marcus Maye Doubtful To Return With Calf Injury
New York Jets safety Marcus Maye (calf) is doubtful to return to the Thursday night game against the Indianapolis Colts after suffering a non-contact injury in the third quarter. This one didn't look good, and Maye was limping pretty badly as he was helped into the locker room to be evaluated. He had two solo tackles and two combined tackles against the Colts before leaving the game. The 28-year-old is playing the 2021 season on the franchise tag and was a candidate to be traded before Tuesday's deadline, but that obviously didn't happen. In five games played this year coming into this game, Maye had 40 tackles (28 solo), four tackles for loss, one QB hit, two passes defended and one sack.

Marcus Maye Facing Charges From DUI
New York Jets safety Marcus Maye is facing charges from a DUI arrest and car crash that happened on Feb. 22 in Florida. Maye could be facing a suspension from the league for violating the personal-conduct policy. The 28-year-old was charged with driving under the influence and DUI/damage to property and a person leaving the scene of a crash. The arrest occurred two weeks before the Jets placed the franchise tag on their 2020 MVP. Maye is playing the 2021 season on the $10.6 million tag. He missed the Week 4 win over the Tennessee Titans with an ankle injury suffered in Week 3, and he's expected to miss three to four weeks. The former second-rounder could be a trade option by the Nov. 2 deadline if he's healthy by then.
