The Miami Dolphins placed tight end MarQueis Gray (Achilles) on Injured Reserve on Thursday and re-signed tight end Gavin Escobar in a corresponding move. Gray was set to be the team's starting tight end, but he reportedly suffered a serious injury in practice on Wednesday. It's unclear if he'll be able to make it back at all this year. Escobar had 30 catches for 333 yards (11.1 yards per catch) and eight touchdowns in 64 career games and seven starts for the Cowboys. AJ Derby and Mike Gesicki will be the top two tight ends now, but the rookie Gesicki will be the one with fantasy relevance, mainly as a red-zone weapon for quarterback Ryan Tannehill.
Miami Dolphins tight end MarQueis Gray (foot) was limited in practice on Wednesday. Gray is listed as the team's starting tight end, but rookie Mike Gesicki has the most pass-catching upside of the group and could become a red-zone option immediately for quarterback Ryan Tannehill. Gray should be ignored in fantasy leagues.
The Miami Dolphins have named MarQueis Gray as the starting tight end. Gray edged out rookie Mike Gesicki for the starting role. Gray is currently dealing with concussion-like symptoms and is questionable for week one. He is entering his sixth NFL season, but this will be Gray's first opportunity as a starter. He's never had more than 14 catches or 174 yards receiving in a season. Gray isn't a great fantasy option at tight end, and despite so much time in the league he's something of an unknown quantity. He was a college QB and WR at Minnesota and hasn't gotten a chance to showcase himself in the NFL. He's an interesting player to watch, but probably won't ascend beyond weekly streamer status this season.
