Mason Crosby News
It appears that the Green Bay Packers will keep kicker Mason Crosby in 2022. Crosby is scheduled to make $3.4 million with a salary cap charge of $4.735 million in 2022, and there has been no change in his status or contract, according to a source. The 37-year-old veteran had a rough 2021 season in Green Bay, making only 73.5% of his 34 field-goal attempts over 17 regular season games. He was only able to make nine of his 13 tries from 30-39 yards, and the Packers also have kickers J.J. Molson and Dominik Eberle waiting in the wings if Crosby struggles again in 2022. Crosby could have some streaming fantasy appeal if he can turn things around, but he's on the hot seat in Green Bay.
Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst didn't sound ready to move on from veteran kicker Mason Crosby during his press conference this week. Crosby has a 2022 salary cap number around $4.7 million, and the Packers would free up around $2.4 million by cutting him. He hasn't missed a game since the team drafted him in 2007, but Crosby missed an NFL-high nine kicks among kickers who attempted at least one field goal per game in 2021. He also had a kick blocked in the Divisional Round loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Green Bay recently signed Dominik Eberle, and they also have J.J. Molson on the roster, so Crosby will need to perform if he remains with the team to keep the starting gig.
Green Bay Packers kicker Mason Crosby faces the Minnesota Vikings in Week 11, who allow the sixth-most points to the position this season. The 37-year-old has missed at least one field goal in three of his last games. He's converted 17-of-24 field-goal attempts, and 24-of-25 in extra-point tries over 10 games in 2021. Sunday's game between the Packers and Vikings has an over/under of 49. Crosby has a favorable matchup in a projected high-scoring affair, but his current success rate puts him more as a streamer in deep-league formats.
