Giants Add Matt Barkley To Active Roster

The New York Giants signed quarterback Matt Barkley from the practice squad to their active 53-man roster on Wednesday. Daniel Jones (knee) suffered a season-ending torn ACL in the Week 9 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, and the team also placed veteran Tyrod Taylor (ribs) on Injured Reserve last weekend. Taylor will miss at least the next three games, but there's a chance he may not play again this year. The G-Men are moving forward with undrafted rookie Tommy Devito under center for the time being, but the 33-year-old Barkley could eventually be making starts for the Giants before the season is over. It's a dire QB situation for New York to be in, and it will be a major downgrade for all of their offensive weapons in fantasy, mainly running back Saquon Barkley.

Giants Add Matt Barkley To Practice Squad

The New York Giants signed quarterback Matt Barkley to their practice squad on Tuesday, according to Tuesday's NFL transaction wire. Barkley hasn't played in the NFL since 2020 with the Buffalo Bills and was with the team in training camp before being cut before the regular season due to an injury. The 33-year-old has history with head coach Brian Daboll from their time together in Buffalo. Barkley will provide the G-Men with some QB insurance with Tyrod Taylor (ribs) week-to-week and Daniel Jones (neck) hoping to return in Week 9 against the Las Vegas Raiders after a three-game absence. The Giants also added Tommy Devito to their active roster on Tuesday. Barkley remains firmly off the fantasy radar in all leagues.

Matt Barkley Waived With Injury Settlement

Buffalo Bills quarterback Matt Barkley (elbow) was waived from Injured Reserve with an injury settlement. The veteran QB injured his right elbow during the preseason, and the Bills decided to release him with an injury settlement, as opposed to keeping him on IR for the rest of the year. Depending on the severity of his elbow injury, Barkley should be able to find a home elsewhere as a backup or third-stringer.

Matt Barkley Misses More Practice Time

Buffalo Bills backup quarterback Matt Barkley (elbow) has yet to practice since being hit late in last Saturday's preseason game against Pittsburgh. He's been sporting a brace on the sidelines while he watches the rest of his team work. His status for the preseason finale on Saturday against Chicago is uncertain. Barkley is the favorite to win the backup job in Buffalo but he threw three interceptions against the Steelers and may be losing ground to Kyle Allen. Regardless, Barkley is not worth a roster spot for fantasy managers in any format.

Matt Barkley Injured On Saturday

Buffalo Bills quarterback Matt Barkley (elbow) was injured during Saturday's preseason meeting with the Steelers. The veteran signal-caller played well during the Bills' first preseason game. However, it was a different story this time around, with Barkley throwing 93 yards and three picks off 7-for-12 passing before going down with an elbow injury. He is competing with Kyle Allen for the No. 2 spot behind Josh Allen. But Saturday's performance certainly didn't improve his chances of winning the backup job.

Matt Barkley Nearly Perfect In Preseason Opener

Buffalo Bills quarterback Matt Barkley completed 14 of 15 passing attempts for 172 yards and two touchdowns in Saturday's 23-19 preseason win over the Indianapolis Colts. He took only one sack. The 32-year-old was terrific after replacing Kyle Allen on the second drive of the third quarter for the Bills. Allen, on the other hand, completed only eight of his 15 attempts for 122 yards and an interception, taking two sacks. Barkley perhaps made a case to become Buffalo's preferred backup option to superstar Josh Allen after the showing, but the veteran obviously doesn't belong on any fantasy draft radars this summer.

Bills Sign Matt Barkley Monday

The Buffalo Bills signed free-agent quarterback Matt Barkley to an undisclosed one-year deal on Monday. Barkley was with the Carolina Panthers last year before joining the Atlanta Falcons practice squad in early January. The 31-year-old played for the Bills from 2018-20, playing in eight games (one start) and throwing for 788 yards, three touchdowns and four interceptions. The Bills recently traded for Case Keenum to be Josh Allen's backup in 2022, so Barkley will presumably serve as Buffalo's No. 3 QB this year. Barkley was initially a fourth-round pick by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2013 out of USC, and he's started only seven of his 19 career games in six NFL seasons.

Matt Barkley Lands On COVID-19 List

Carolina Panthers quarterback Matt Barkley is the latest signal-caller to land on the league's Reserve/COVID-19 list as of Friday. While the move doesn't change Carolina's game plan Sunday against the Bills, it does leave them with just two active QBs in Cam Newton and P.J. Walker, with Sam Darnold (shoulder) still on Injured Reserve. Barkley has yet to appear in a game for the Panthers this season, but he did get into eight games over the past three years with Buffalo. No matter who is under center for Carolina, they face the daunting task of figuring out the Bills defense, likely pushing Newton and/or Walker from any kind of fantasy consideration.

Panthers Sign Matt Barkley

The Carolina Panthers are signing veteran quarterback Matt Barkley, pending a physical, per Joe Person of The Athletic. Barkley, 31, has made seven career starts in six seasons for the Eagles, Bears, and Bills, completing 58.4 percent of his passes for 2,699 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 22 interceptions across six seasons. The veteran signal-caller is likely just quarterback insurance behind P.J. Walker- though it could also mean that Sam Darnold (shoulder), who is day-to-day, could be heading for an absence this Sunday. Walker completed 24 of 34 passes for 258 yards, one score, and two interceptions in a start last year against the Lions. He would likely be under center with Barkley backing him up if Darnold were to miss Sunday's game against the Cardinals.

Matt Barkley Signs With Tennessee Titans

The Tennessee Titans have signed quarterback Matt Barkley to serve as the backup to starter Ryan Tannehill. The former Eagles, Bears, and Bills quarterback has played in 19 games (7 starts), and has amassed 2,699 passing yards with 11 passing touchdowns. The Titans added to a thin depth chart as Barkley can add some insurance with DeShone Kizer and Logan Woodside as the only other options. Barkley should not be drafted in fantasy unless you're mistaking him for Giants running back Saquon Barkley.
