Falcons Expected To Pick Up Matt Schaub's Option

The Atlanta Falcons are expected to pick up quarterback Matt Schaub's $2 million option for the 2020 season, according to a source. Schaub made just one start in 2019 and was underwhelming in place of Matt Ryan. The veteran signal-caller attempted 67 passes for 580 yards, three touchdowns and one interception in parts of six games last season. He'll be 39 in June and is a shaky backup option if Matty Ice were to miss any more games next season due to injury. Even if Schaub is starting games at some point next year, he'd be a shaky second QB in two-quarterback leagues.

Matt Schaub Throws For 460 Yards In Week 8

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Schaub did a capable job filling in for injured starter Matt Ryan (ankle) in Week 8. Schaub completed 39-of-52 passes for 460 yards and a touchdown against the Seahawks. He also threw an interception and lost a fumble. The Falcons have their bye next week and it's likely that Ryan will be returning as the team's starter in Week 10 as he was questionable much of this past week leading up to the game. Schaub can be dropped or left on waiver wires after this week.

Matt Schaub Could Be A QB2 Starter

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Schaub could make his first start of the season in Week 8 if starter Matt Ryan (ankle) is unable to go. Ryan, who has started 163 consecutive games, seems about 50/50 at this point. If Schaub ends up getting the nod, he could be a starter in two-quarterback leagues, as he'd be stepping into the driver's seat of an elite passing offense. The Falcons play the Seahawks this week, a team that has been among the middle of the pack in pass defense. Schaub was a perfect 6-for-6 for 65 yards and a touchdown in his limited run in Week 7 after Ryan's injury. He'd have a chance to throw for around 250 yards and a pair of touchdowns in Week 8 if he's out there.
