Free-agent linebacker Matthew Adams has signed with the New York Giants, as reported by NFL insider Field Yates. The 2018 seventh-round pick spent last season with the Cleveland Browns after one year with the Chicago Bears and four years with the Indianapolis Colts. The University of Houston product has racked up 98 tackles (68 solo), two forced fumbles, and 11 run stuffs in 85 career games. In all likelihood, he'll be utilized as a special teamer and reserve linebacker in new defensive coordinator Shane Bowen's new system.
Chicago Bears linebacker Matt Adams was arrested on Thursday night and charged with misdemeanor gun possession and possessing a high-capacity magazine and metal-piercing bullets, according to the police report. Police found the bullets while searching a vehicle that had been reported stolen. Adams has a court date scheduled for Aug. 24. The 26-year-old was a seventh-round pick by the Indianapolis Colts in 2018, and he spent the last four seasons working with head coach Matt Eberflus, who was the defensive coordinator for the Colts. Adams has mostly made an impact on special teams in his time in the NFL, and the Bears were expecting much of the same in 2022.
