New England Patriots kicker Mike Nugent made his debut with the team, hitting both of his field goal attempts but missing an extra-point in the Patriots win over the Redskins. The 37-year-old won an open tryout this week after long-time kicker Stephen Gostkowski was placed on IR with a hip injury. Nugent missed on his first extra-point attempt but bounced back by hitting field goals from 23 and 37 yards respectively. Playing on a team with a dynamic offense will earn him some value in the fantasy department and will be a solid streamer this Thursday against the Giants to kick off Week 6.
The Oakland Raiders placed kicker Mike Nugent (hip) on Injured Reserve on Wednesday. He'll be out for at least the next eight weeks of the season. In his place, Oakland signed undrafted free-agent kicker Matt McCrane to handle the kicking duties moving forward. Oakland's kicking situation needs to be avoided by fantasy owners.
Raiders To Try Out Kickers With Mike Nugent Injured
Oakland Raiders kicker Mike Nugent (hip) injured his hip in the Week 3 loss to the Dolphins, and the team will try out kickers this week. Well be working out numerous people, head coach Jon Gruden said, via Michael Gehlken of the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Nugent had made all six of his field goal attempts and was 4-for-5 on extra points before his injury. Whoever signs with Oakland to replace Nugent won't be on the fantasy radar. It's unclear how long Nugent's injury will keep him out.
The Dallas Cowboys signed veteran kicker Mike Nugent on Tuesday. With kicker Dan Bailey out for a while due to a groin strain, the Cowboys needed someone to take over kicking duties. Nugent will fill Bailey's shoes for a few weeks, but Bailey's job will be there for him when he is healthy. Nugent makes for a decent fantasy option and should be on the streaming radar for fantasy players with kickers on bye weeks.
New York Giants place kicker Mike Nugent demonstrated unexpected power in Saturday's contest against the New York Jets, nailing field goals of 50 and 54 yards. The 13-year veteran has historically struggled with longer kicks, making 11 of 28 from beyond 50 yards throughout his career, as well as an underwhelming two of nine over the past three seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals. "He (Nugent) kicked the heck out of the football today," head coach Ben McAdoo said. "He made a nice long one there for us on the 36-yard line - that's big for us." Nugent's competition for the primary place kicker role, 22-year-old Aldrick Rosas, kicked a lone 24-yard field goal en route to a 32-31 victory. Up to this point, both kickers have performed perfectly, and it will likely remain a battle to monitor closely throughout the duration of the preseason. Whoever wins the job is merely a streaming option in fantasy leagues, though.
