The Kansas City Chiefs re-signed offensive tackle Mike Remmers to a one-year deal worth $3.5 million guaranteed on Thursday, according to a source. The total maximum value of the deal can reach $7 million. He wound up playing in 13 regular season games (10 starts) after originally signing as a versatile reserve offensive lineman. Remmers was mostly solid last year at a number of different spots along the line, mostly at right tackle after Mitchell Schwartz's injury kept him out for the rest of the season. He'll receive some competition from Lucas Niang, who sat out in 2020, but it should be Remmers' job to lose after he was a big part of their run to the Super Bowl. Of utmost importance is the protection of star quarterback Patrick Mahomes, and the Chiefs are slowly building their offensive line back up.
The Kansas City Chiefs have been in discussions about re-signing offensive tackle Mike Remmers after recently releasing tackles Eric Fisher and Mitchell Schwartz, according to a source. Remmers thrived at right tackle before moving to the left side out of necessity in the Super Bowl when Fisher was out due to injury. He should have a market in free agency, but the Chiefs are hoping they can get him to return. Austin Reiter also won't be returning to the offensive line, so KC will certainly make an effort to retain Remmers. His versatility is extremely valuable, as he's started games at right guard, left guard and right tackle. Remmers will cost more after signing a one-year, $1.2 million deal last year. He didn't allow a single sack during the regular season and had fewer than 20 pressures on the year.
Minnesota Vikings right tackle Mike Remmers (concussion) and safety Andrew Sendejo (groin, hamstring) have been ruled out for Week 11 against the Rams. While not impact players on both sides of the ball, their absences will surely be felt in a tough matchup with the surging Rams. Remmers' inactivity could be bad news for the protection of quarterback Case Keenum, while Sendejo's absence will be bad news for a Minnesota secondary trying to contain LA's high-flying passing attack.
