Mike Strachan News
Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Mike Strachan drew the most targets (7) amongst all Colts receivers and backs during Friday's 27-17 preseason finale win over the Detroit Lions. Despite being held without a touchdown, the rookie wideout caught five of his seven targets for 61 yards. He's 6'5", 224 pounds, and a physically dominant wideout that could completely change the way opposing defenses scheme coverage. Drafted in the seventh round out of Charleston, Strachan has been a favorite target for all Colts backup quarterbacks throughout the preseason and could earn a role in certain formations with Carson Wentz and the first team in 2021.
Indianapolis Colts rookie wide receiver Mike Strachan has reportedly been impressing the team during preseason practices, including drawing praise from Colts cornerback Xavier Rhodes. Strachan -- a seventh-round pick out of Charleston -- saw some first team reps on Tuesday because Parris Campbell was out with illness. Strachan is a big receiver who can create mismatches on the outside, but even with his impressive showing, cracking the Colts rotation at wideout is tough. In addition to Campbell, there's Michael Pittman Jr., T.Y. Hilton, and Zach Pascal to contend with. Strachan is more of a dynasty stash than he is a redraft option at this point.
The Indianapolis Colts are intrigued by the first impressions that rookie tight end Kylen Granson (fourth-round pick) and rookie wide receiver Mike Strachan (seventh round) gave them during offseason practices. Granson is the more likely of the two to play early on in 2021 because he offers a different skill set than Jack Doyle and Mo Alie-Cox. The Colts view Granson in a similar role that Trey Burton played last year. Strachan has impressed with his mental acumen, but he remains more of a long shot to contribute in Year 1. Although Granson lacks ideal size, his after-the-catch ability is what intrigues the Colts the most. Indy's tight end position figures to be another committee approach this year, which gives Doyle and Alie-Cox low fantasy ceilings, but Granson is a name to file away.
