Kylen Granson News
Indianapolis Colts tight end Kylen Granson was the most targeted Colts tight end during Friday's 27-17 win over the Detroit Lions during the preseason finale. Granson was drafted in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft out of SMU and will definitely be mixed into the rotation with starters Mo Alie-Cox and Jack Doyle. Head coach Frank Reich likes to run pre-snap motion and 13 personnel, meaning Granson could be utilized as an H-back, blocker, or receiver depending on the formation and play call. He's not the biggest tight end, but his sure hands and fluid route-running make him an interesting stash in dynasty leagues, as he pulled in three of four targets for 23 receiving yards against the Lions on Friday. The other Colts' backup tight ends only drew one target apiece on Friday, meaning Granson is almost certainly going to be involved with the first team throughout 2021.
Indianapolis Colts rookie tight end Kylen Granson will be featured this year as a pass-catching tight end, and he's already been involved in training camp. The Colts also have Jack Doyle and Mo Alie-Cox at the position, but Granson has a chance to benefit if Doyle and Alie-Cox have significant blocking responsibilities, especially with left tackle Eric Fisher (Achilles) questionable for the start of the regular season. If he can consistently avoid drops, Granson has a chance to have a big year. However, he has just two catches on seven targets while playing 42 offensive snaps this preseason, and he remains third on the tight end depth chart in Indy. It's another reminder that fantasy managers are unlikely to find much production from the Colts committee of tight ends in 2021.
Tight end is one of the most intriguing positions on the Indianapolis Colts, with Jack Doyle, Mo Alie-Cox, and rookie Kylen Granson all competing for minutes. While Doyle and Alie-Cox have both had some strong showings in the past, Granson has reportedly impressed the Colts coaching staff this offseason. Zak Keefer of The Athletic believes that "the door's open at the Y tight end position," and that a strong training camp from Granson could get him on the field immediately, with a chance to earn some targets from quarterback Carson Wentz, who did a good job involving tight ends when he was with the Eagles. That doesn't mean you need to draft Granson in redraft leagues, but he's a name that fantasy managers should keep an eye on.
