Titans Bring Julius Chestnut Back On One-Year Deal
The Tennessee Titans are re-signing running back Julius Chestnut to a one-year contract, according to NFL insider Tom Pelissero. Chestnut signed with Tennessee after going undrafted in 2022 out of Sacred Heart University, and he has contributed on special teams and offense over the last three seasons. Overall, the 24-year-old has logged 31 rushes for 102 yards, five receptions for 52 yards, four tackles, and one fumble recovery in 23 career games. While Chestnut is unlikely to be fantasy-relevant in 2025, the run of unfortunate injury luck for backup running back Tyjae Spears keeps him on the fantasy football radar in the deepest of fantasy football leagues. That said, if the Titans select a running back in the 2025 NFL Draft at any point, Chestnut could be a cut candidate after training camp.
Tennessee Titans running back Julius Chestnut ran for 17 yards on three carries after replacing an injured Tyjae Spears (concussion) in the third quarter during Sunday's 20-13 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Chestnut is third in line at his position after lead back Tony Pollard (ankle, illness) also missed the Week 17 matchup against Jacksonville. Chestnut hasn't seen much action so far this season-;totaling just 17 carries throughout the 2024 campaign before this week-;but could see a massive uptick if Pollard is unable to suit up against Houston for the final game of the year. Spears has already been ruled out against the Texans. Fantasy managers will have to monitor the depth chart as the week goes on, but for now Chestnut seems to be the top healthy option for Tennessee going into Week 18.
Tennessee Titans running back Julius Chestnut has been sparingly involved throughout the 2024-25 campaign. With Tyjae Spears (concussion) sidelined for the Week 12 win over the Houston Texans, Chestnut had a chance to get more involved. However, that didn't happen, with the 24-year-old amassing only one carry for three yards and adding one catch for two yards. Spears is still listed as questionable for the Week 13 encounter with the Washington Commanders, although he's moving in the right direction. But even if Spears doesn't suit up, Chestnut shouldn't be anywhere near a starting fantasy lineup.
Tennessee Titans running back Julius Chestnut (foot) is officially active for Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Chargers. He had been listed as questionable after logging a limited practice on Friday. Chestnut saw additional opportunities over the last few weeks with Tyjae Spears (hamstring) inactive. However, now that Spears is healthy, Chestnut will return to the No. 3 running back role in Tennessee, keeping him off the fantasy radar in all leagues.
Tennessee Titans running back Julius Chestnut gained waiver attention heading into Sunday's overtime win over the New England Patriots. However, with Tony Pollard (foot) available, Chestnut wasn't very involved, finishing the day with only 22 yards off five carries. As long as Tyjae Spears (hamstring) stays on the shelf, Chestnut should remain the No. 2 option on the depth chart. Still, he won't see enough action to warrant fantasy consideration as long as Pollard is on the field. This will remain true for the Titans Week 10 meeting with the Los Angeles Chargers.
Tennessee Titans running back Julius Chestnut could be poised for an increased workload on Sunday afternoon against the New England Patriots. With Tyjae Spears (hamstring) already ruled out, Chestnut is expected to open the game as the No.2 option. However, the lead running back Tony Pollard (foot) is listed as questionable which could open the door for Chestnut to start. In addition, Pollard has not practiced this week, which is not a promising sign for his availability. Chestnut has played three seasons with the Titans but has logged only 20 attempts with 61 yards and four catches for 50 yards. If he gets the start, he would be viewed as a low-end flex option, simply off volume.
Tennessee Titans running back Julius Chestnut rushed five times for nine yards during Saturday's preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers. However, the bulk of his production came in the passing game where he hauled in two of three targets for a total of 37 yards through the air. His best play was a 36-yard pick-up on a short pass from Mason Rudolph in the second quarter. Chestnut has just 12 touches in nine games over the last two years, potentially putting him on the roster bubble ahead of what would be his age-23 season. Regardless of whether he makes the team, Chestnut should be avoided in all fantasy leagues.
Tennessee Titans running back Julius Chestnut (hamstring) has been ruled out for the remainder of Week 3 against the Cleveland Browns. He had not logged a touch before exiting. Derrick Henry and Tyjae Spears will continue to operate as the top two running backs in Tennessee's backfield, per usual.
Tennessee Titans running back Julius Chestnut took nine carries for 30 yards and two catches for 42 yards and a touchdown in Friday's 23-7 preseason win over the Patriots. Tyjae Spears repped ahead of the other backups as he has all preseason, with Chestnut taking over after that and making some big plays to ignite the Titans' offense. Running back Jacques Patrick also did well with 17 touches for 94 yards, but Chestnut has scored three TDs this preseason and may have earned the No. 3 RB role heading into a Week 1 road game against New Orleans. He could hold some fantasy value this year if he can hold off Patrick for the 3rd RB role.
Julius Chestnut Trending Toward Making Active Roster
Tennessee Titans running back Julius Chestnut has been impressive in the team's two preseason games thus far, handling 20 carries for 144 yards (7.2 YPC) and one rushing touchdown. As a receiver, he's hauled in three passes for 16 yards and a score. He's also impressed head coach Mike Vrabel on special teams, which is key for reserve running backs to make the active roster. "He's a worker, probably one of the best finishers on our football team," Vrabel said. "You guys watch practice. You see No. 36 hauling down the field when he doesn't have the ball, that's how he plays without the football." Chestnut could be staking a claim for the RB3 job behind Derrick Henry and Tyjae Spears, meaning Hassan Haskins, Jonathan Ward, and Jacques Patrick could be at risk of being released.
