Jeffery Simmons News
The Tennessee Titans exercised the fifth-year option for defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons on Wednesday, which will keep him under contract with the team through the 2023 season. Simmons was a first-round pick by the Titans in 2019 and is coming off his first Pro Bowl while recording a career-best 8.5 sacks in 2021. He also led the team with 58 QB pressures and was second with 12 tackles for loss. The 24-year-old pass-rusher also finished with 54 tackles (42 solo) and six passes defensed in his best NFL season over 17 regular season starts. Simmons will once again be a key part of Tennessee's defense in his fourth NFL season in 2022.
Tennessee Titans defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons (knee) did not take part in practice on Wednesday. Simmons will need to get in some practice time later this week if he hopes to play in Week 16 against the Packers. While Tennessee's defense should be avoided for this matchup against Green Bay's high-powered offense under Aaron Rodgers, Simmons has been a borderline fantasy starter in IDP leagues at the defensive line position this season. The 23-year-old hasn't had a sack since Week 12 against the Colts, but he does have 47 combined tackles (three for loss), 12 QB hits, five passes defensed, a forced fumble, three fumble recoveries and three sacks on the year. Tennessee will need Simmons on Sunday to try and slow down the Packers.
Tennessee Titans first-round rookie defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons (knee) said he's not "rushing anything" in his rookie season as far as getting back onto the field as he rehabs an ACL tear. "If I dont play this year, Im fine with it, but my goal is to get healthy on my time and on this teams time. Theres no time limit and when I can come back," Simmons said. The 19th overall pick in the draft suffered his torn ACL in February while training, and he could return near the end of the 2019 season, but the Titans have no incentive to rush him. There is no timetable for him to run or jog yet. Simmons will surely help the Titans pass rush when he's healthy, but that might not be until 2020.
