Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay said that rookie third-round safety Terrell Burgess (ankle) broke his ankle in the Monday night win over the Bears and will miss the rest of the season. The 21-year-old will finish his rookie season with eight tackles (seven solo) and one pass defensed in seven games of action. Burgess was taken with the 104th overall pick in April and has the versatility to also play nickel cornerback in the NFL. He's a smart player and anticipates routes in coverage. The former Utah Ute should have plenty of time to recover in time for training camp next summer.
Terrell Burgess Brings Versatility To Rams Secondary
The Los Angeles Rams selected Utah safety Terrell Burgess with the No. 104 overall pick late in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Burgess can defend deep and also play the run in the box near the line of scrimmage. Veteran-like instincts and dynamic athleticism allow him to roam the field, and he also has coverage skills in the passing game. His weakness is a small frame (5-foot-11, 202 pounds), and he lacks elite speed to keep up with the elite speed receivers at the next level. If he's used as a cornerback in LA, it'll probably be in nickel packages in the slot. Burgess could be paired with Taylor Rapp in his new home.
