New Orleans Saints all-time franchise sack leader Cameron Jordan has reached an agreement to return to the team for his 15th season, a source told NewOrleans.Football's Mike Triplett. Jordan had one year and $12.5 million left on his current deal, although a pay cut is expected. Without a contract restructure, the 35-year-old veteran likely would have been a salary cap casualty this offseason after waning production in recent seasons. The former 24th overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft out of California was a first-team All-Pro back in 2017 and has been named to eight Pro Bowls in his 14 years in the league. Jordan has had double-digit sacks six times, although he has just 14.5 combined sacks in the last three seasons in New Orleans. In addition to leading the franchise with 121.5 sacks all time, Jordan has started all but one of the 226 games he's appeared in.
The New Orleans Saints are projected to be $50 million over the 2025 salary cap, so they are once again going to need to perform salary-cap gymnastics this offseason. Defensive end Cameron Jordan is a beloved and long-time member of the organization and has told ESPN's Dan Graziano he wants to finish his career in New Orleans. However, he turns 36 years old in July, has one year left on his current contract, and has a cap number of around $20 million in 2025. If the Saints don't want to approach Jordan with an extension, they could make him a post-June 1 cut to save $11 million in this year's cap. It will be a difficult decision on a player that has spent all 14 years of his NFL career with the Saints, but Jordan, an eight-time Pro Bowler, has seen his production fall off dramatically the last couple of years and has just six sacks in the last two seasons.
New Orleans Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan (ankle), who said his ankle injury bothered him all year in 2023, also said he's not considering retirement this offseason. "I love the Saints too much to retire," Jordan said. The 34-year-old pass-rushing veteran was in his 13th season with the team this year and wasn't very productive while playing through injury, ultimately finishing with 43 tackles (20 solo), only two sacks, three tackles for loss, six QB hits and one fumble recovery in 17 starts. The eight-time Pro Bowler had the fewest amount of sacks since his rookie season in 2011 but appears to be coming back for his 14th season in 2024. Jordan has two years left on his current deal with New Orleans and will be hoping to be more productive rushing the passer if he can stay healthy this fall.
New Orleans Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan (ankle) was a game-time decision for Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions, but he's officially active and will play in Week 13. Jordan wasn't on the practice field all week, but the Saints apparently felt the 34-year-old was moving around well enough during pre-game warmups to clear him to play this week. His presence on the defensive line is great news for the Saints' defensive front while going up against a good offensive line that has really underperformed in recent weeks. The eight-time Pro Bowler has had a down season to this point with only two sacks and 34 tackles (15 solo) in 11 games played.
New Orleans Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan (ankle) will be a game-time decision versus the Detroit Lions on Sunday. Despite missing all three practices this past week, he is listed as questionable and "has a shot" to play, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. Jordan hasn't missed a game all season, registering 34 tackles, two sacks, and one fumble recovery. His presence would be huge for the Saints' defense as they look to slow down the Lions' strong offense.
New Orleans Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan has reached an extension with the organization. The two sides have agreed on a two-year, $27.5 million contract extension. The 34-year-old is the Saints' all-time sack leader and will now get a chance to increase his lead with a deal signed through 2025. The veteran pass rusher has showed no signs of slowing down. In fact, Jordan has 21 sacks over the past two seasons. Jordan will continue to be the anchor on this defensive line for a few more years.
New Orleans Saints eight-time Pro Bowl defensive end Cameron Jordan is reworking his contract to save the team $10 million against this year's salary cap, according to a league source. The Saints are constantly kicking the can down the road when it pertains to their salary cap, so this move shouldn't come as much of a surprise. The 33-year-old Jordan remained very effective in his 12th year in New Orleans in 2022, posting 66 tackles (40 solo), 8.5 sacks, 13 tackles for loss, 13 QB hits and two forced fumbles in 16 regular season starts. He's been extremely durable as well and should remain a fixture in IDP fantasy leagues at the defensive line position in 2023.
New Orleans Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan (eye) won't suit up for the Week 11 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams. The 33-year-old will miss his first game of his career on Sunday. Jordan played in 186 straight games before suffering an orbital bone fracture. His presence will be missed on this defensive unit on Sunday. However, Jordan is already pushing to play next week. The loss of the Pro Bowl pass rusher will certainly be a significant hit to the Saints defense.
The New Orleans Saints restructured the contracts of defensive ends Cameron Jordan and Tanoh Kpassagnon on Thursday to create $12.445 million in salary cap space for the 2022 season, according to a source. The Saints also re-signed exclusive-rights free agents Carl Granderson and Jalen Dalton on Thursday. This will be the second straight year that Jordan has restructured his contract to help New Orleans get back under the salary cap. Jordan made his fifth straight Pro Bowl (seventh overall) by recording 59 tackles (38 solo), 13 tackles for loss, 22 QB hits, six passes defensed, two forced fumbles and 12.5 sacks in 16 games last year. He has double-digit sacks in six of his 11 NFL seasons.
New Orleans Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday and was placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list, according to a source. If Jordan is vaccinated, he will need to be asymptomatic and return two negative tests 24 hours apart in order to be cleared to play in Week 14 against the New York Jets. If he is unvaccinated, he'll be quarantined for 10 days and will be inactive this Sunday. With a nice matchup against the Jets this weekend, New Orleans would be missing one of their best pass-rushers if Jordan doesn't get cleared in time. The 32-year-old six-time Pro Bowler has racked up 38 tackles (22 solo), six tackles for loss, 13 QB hits, a forced fumble and four sacks in 12 games so far in 2021.
