Chris Olave Being Held Out During Team Drills

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave (illness) has been limited to individual drills during mini camp while he recovers from a blood clot issue. Olave has been going through individual walkthroughs and OTAs, but isn't doing any contact drills yet. Head coach Kellen Moore recently mentioned that Olave is currently on track with no issues. The plan is for Olave to stop taking blood thinners on June 29, which should mean he'll resume normal football activities after that. This past season, Olave posted 100 receptions, 1,163 receiving yards, and nine touchdowns in 16 games with the Saints. He's entering the final year of his rookie contract and could be headed towards a massive payday soon.

Chris Olave Still Recovering From Blood Clot

New Orleans Saints head coach Kellen Moore said that the team has kept wide receiver Chris Olave (illness) out of team drills this offseason because he's still recovering from the blood clot that kept him out late last season, according to Matthew Paras of The New Orleans Times-Picayune. Olave missed two games late in the year, but the former 11th overall pick in 2022 out of Ohio State still managed to record a career-high 1,163 receiving yards and nine touchdowns on 100 receptions in 16 starts for the Saints in his fourth year in the NFL. The 25-year-old quickly developed chemistry with rookie quarterback Tyler Shough in 2025 in Moore's pass-happy offense, and his arrow will be pointing up again in 2026 as long as his blood-clot issue doesn't linger going into training camp and the start of the 2026 regular season early in September. The Saints have more weapons on offense around Olave in rookie receiver Jordyn Tyson and running back Travis Etienne Jr. out of the backfield, but he should still at least be considered a low-end WR1 in fantasy drafts this year.

Chris Olave Still a High-Upside Dynasty Swing for the Risk Tolerant

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave finished 2025 as the WR6 in half-PPR formats, and his pace was even stronger following the takeover of the starting quarterback spot by rookie Tyler Shough. In the eight games Olave played with the first-year signal caller starting under center, he racked up a 17-game pace of 102 catches for 1,403 yards and 13 touchdowns, good enough to make him the WR3 over that span. With a full offseason together and Olave reportedly feeling no lingering effects of the blood clot that kept him out of the season finale, fantasy managers can expect a heightened chemistry in 2026. The Saints selected Arizona State wide receiver Jordyn Tyson with the eighth pick of the 2026 NFL Draft, adding a significant level of target competition that Olave has not faced in some time, but in Kellen Moore's up-tempo, high-volume offense, there should be no shortage of opportunities, and Olave could potentially benefit from softer coverages moving forward. Still owning a significant history of concussions, Olave will always carry a degree of risk, but at RotoBaller's dynasty WR15, the soon-to-be-26-year-old wideout should continue to return value as long as he's on the field.

Saints Continue to Work on Extension With Chris Olave

When asked about whether there is a timeline to get something done with wide receiver Chris Olave, New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis said, "Obviously we'd love to have something done sooner than later, and I'm sure Chris would as well, but we're not there yet," according to Katherine Terrell of ESPN. Loomis added that talks with Olave on a potential long-term contract extension have been good, and Olave has been around the building a lot this offseason, which is a good sign. The 25-year-old former 11th overall pick in 2022 out of Ohio State is heading into the final year of his rookie contract after the Saints picked up his $15.49 million fifth-year option for the 2026 season. Olave played in only eight games due to a concussion in 2024, but he bounced back with career highs in catches (100), receiving yards (1,163), and touchdowns (nine) in 16 starts in 2025 in his fourth year in the league. If the Saints eventually give Olave an extension, he's expected to demand around $33 million per year. Going into 2026 with quarterback Tyler Shough locked in as the starter, Olave is trending up in fantasy football and should be considered a low-end WR1/high-end WR2 target in drafts this fall.

Chris Olave Facing Increased Target Competition in New Orleans Entering 2026

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave put together arguably his best NFL season in 2025, recording 100 receptions for 1,163 yards and nine touchdowns on 156 targets across 16 games. Olave showed off encouraging chemistry with Saints quarterback Tyler Shough down the stretch of the season. He also finished the year with at least 90 more targets than any other wide receiver on the team, which was a key factor in his consistent fantasy production. While Olave still projects as the WR1 in New Orleans heading into 2026, he will unquestionably see more competition for targets after the Saints used the eighth overall pick in the 2026 Draft on Arizona State wideout Jordyn Tyson. The overall offensive ecosystem in New Orleans is improving as Shough enters his second season, which could help make up for any production Olave surrenders to Tyson. Still, Olave's dynasty outlook is a bit less certain following the Saints' addition of another high-profile wideout in Tyson.

Can Chris Olave Continue to Dominate Target Share?

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave finished 2025 as the fantasy WR6, largely on the strength of a 27.3% team target share, and he came into the offseason as the undisputed top option in New Orleans. The addition of Travis Etienne Jr. in free agency will add a wrinkle to Kellen Moore's evolving offense, but having topped a 10% target share only once in his four professional seasons, he posed no major threat to Olave's week-winning volume. The same can not be said about some of the talent added through the first two nights of the NFL Draft. The Saints selected Arizona State wide receiver Jordyn Tyson with the eighth overall pick and added Georgia tight end Oscar Delp in the third round. While durability concerns shaded Tyson's profile heading into the draft, many believe he has the most upside of any receiver in a deep 2026 class, and Delp is thought to have untapped potential as a pass catcher after being utilized predominantly inline by the Bulldogs. Since being selected in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, Olave has never faced significant target competition. Even while missing 13 games across his first four seasons, Olave's 111.5 targets per season radically outpaced the 53.5 per year average of the team's WR2 over that time. While the Saints have long involved their tight ends and running backs in the passing game, the offense they are building around Tyler Shough will provide answers at all levels of the field and make him less reliant on any one player. While Olave still has a claim as the most talented receiver on the team, the 9.4 targets per game that he earned, partly out of necessity, in 2025 could very well stand as a career-high.

Chris Olave's Dynasty Value Rising After Resurgent 2025 Season

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave re-emerged as a high-value PPR wide receiver in 2025, recording 100 receptions for 1,163 yards and nine touchdowns on 156 targets across 16 games. After a lost season in which injuries forced him to miss nine games in 2024, Olave was able to re-establish himself as the clear number one target in New Orleans. He also got some much-needed help in the quarterback department in the second half of the year after Tyler Shough took over as the Saints' QB1. Olave's worrying track record of concussion issues remains a red flag for his long-term dynasty outlook. However, he's proven to be an effective high-volume target earner as long as he's on the field. Particularly with the improved offensive environment around him, Olave's value is trending up heading into 2026.

Saints, Chris Olave Having Extension Talks

New Orleans Saints head coach Kellen Moore said at this week's owners' meetings that the team is holding extension talks with top wide receiver Chris Olave. It looks like the Saints are serious about locking up Olave as young quarterback Tyler Shough's top target for the foreseeable future. Last year, when playing with the rookie Shough, Olave caught 66 passes for 780 yards and six touchdowns in 10 games. Overall, the former first-round pass-catcher caught 100 passes for 1,163 yards and nine touchdowns in 16 starts in his fourth year in the league. It was a nice bounce-back campaign for Olave in 2025 after he played in a career-low eight games due to injury in 2024. In his four years in the league, Olave has made a name for himself, catching 291 passes on 457 targets for 3,728 yards and 19 touchdowns in 55 games played. As Shough's top target again in 2026, Olave will be a low-end WR1/high-end WR2 in fantasy football leagues.

Chris Olave Rehabs his Dynasty Value With Resurgent 2025 Performance

After injuries limited him to just eight games played in 2024, New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave rebounded in a big way in 2025. The 25-year-old set career highs across the board by hauling in 100 receptions for 1,163 yards and nine touchdowns on 156 targets across 16 contests. Olave also got some much-needed help from the quarterback position in the form of 2025 second-rounder Tyler Shough, who emerged as the clear QB1 in New Orleans over the second half of the year. Olave's durability is a red flag in his dynasty profile, as he has an alarming history of concussions dating back to his college career at Ohio State. Still, he should be entering 2026 healthy and remains the clear number one pass-catcher in a Saints offense that currently has largely unproven wideouts Devaughn Vele and Mason Tipton penciled in as its WR2 and WR3. Particularly in PPR formats, Olave profiles as a borderline dynasty WR1 heading into 2026.

Is Chris Olave Primed for WR1 Breakout With Improved Quarterback Play?

After a down year in 2024 in which he missed nine games due to injury, New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave bounced back to form in 2025. Across 16 games, the 25-year-old hauled in 100 receptions for 1,163 yards and nine touchdowns on 156 targets. Olave's production reached a new level after Tyler Shough took over as the Saints' starting quarterback in Week 8. Across nine games alongside Shough, Olave hauled in 56 catches for 723 yards and six touchdowns on 85 targets. With a full season's worth of games playing with Shough in 2026, Olave could be in line for the best year of his career. Injuries remain a concern for Olave, as he's missed 13 games across four NFL seasons and ended 2025 sidelined by a blood clot in his lung. However, he's expected to make a full recovery heading into 2026, and he's proven a safe per-game production floor throughout the course of his career. In dynasty formats, Olave's fantasy stock is rising as a result of his encouraging 2025 season.
