Saints Acquire Davon Godchaux From Patriots

The New Orleans Saints acquired defensive tackle Davon Godchaux from the New England Patriots on Monday in exchange for a seventh-round draft pick in 2026, sources tell NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Godchaux was a starter for four seasons in New England and will now head to the NFC South. He's a Plaquemine, Louisiana native and LSU product and will be heading home. The 30-year-old veteran has one year remaining on the two-year, $18 million extension he signed with the Patriots last offseason. More than anything, Godchaux brings durability in the trenches, as he hasn't missed a game since 2020. He also has 60-plus tackles on the interior defensive line in three of his last four seasons. The former fifth-rounder of the Miami Dolphins in 2017 will help shore up the Saints' run defense in new head coach Kellen Moore's first year running the team.

Patriots Give Davon Godchaux Permission To Seek A Trade

The New England Patriots have given defensive tackle Davon Godchaux permission to seek a trade, sources tell NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Interested teams have already made contact with Godchaux, and the veteran defensive lineman will likely be on the move this offseason given the team's scheme change on defense. In his fourth year in New England, the 30-year-old accumulated 67 combined tackles (second-most in his career) and a pass breakup in 17 starts. While he hasn't been an asset to fantasy managers in IDP formats (only 5.5 career sacks in eight seasons), Godchaux has been extremely reliable for the Patriots and has played in every single game since joining the team in 2021. He was originally taken in the fifth round (178th overall) by the Miami Dolphins in 2017 out of LSU and spent his first four years in the NFL in Miami.

Patriots, Davon Godchaux Agree On Two-Year Extension

The New England Patriots and defensive tackle Davon Godchaux agreed to a two-year contract extension on Wednesday that is worth up to $21 million and includes $16.5 million in guarantees. The deal was completed by Drew Rosenhaus, Jason Rosenhaus and Ryan Matha. The Miami Dolphins selected Godchaux in the fifth round (178th overall) back in 2017 out of LSU, and the 29-year-old defensive lineman has come into his own the last three years in Boston after spending the first four years of his NFL career in Miami. Godchaux isn't on the IDP fantasy radar, but he's accumulated 81 solo tackles, 2.5 sacks, seven tackles for loss, nine QB hits, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in three years for the Patriots. He has not missed a game in his three years with the Pats.

Davon Godchaux Signs Two-Year Extension

New England Patriots defensive tackle Davon Godchaux signed a two-year, $20.8 million contract extension on Wednesday that includes $17.85 million fully guaranteed at signing, according to agents Drew Rosenhaus and Ryan Matha. The Patriots also have Christian Barmore on the interior of the defensive line, but Godchaux impressed in a starting role last year by recording 65 tackles (32 solo), one sack, five QB hits and one forced fumble in 17 games in his first year in New England. The former fifth-round pick of the Miami Dolphins in 2017 out of LSU has just four sacks in five NFL seasons, though, so he's well off the fantasy radar in IDP leagues.

Davon Godchaux Facing Three-Month Recovery

Miami Dolphins starting defensive tackle Davon Godchaux (biceps) is facing a three-month recovery after suffering a biceps tear in the Week 5 win over the 49ers, according to a source. The Dolphins are hoping that he can return toward the end of the regular season or the playoffs if his rehab goes as planned. Godchaux is in the final year of his rookie deal and could be headed for free agency after the 2020 season. He's been a key component on the defensive line in his 52 games (42 starts) in Miami. Rookie second-rounder Raekwon Davis and Zach Sieler should see larger workloads with Godchaux sidelined. The Dolphins Defense surprised against San Fran and will be a low-end starting defense in Week 6 against the winless Jets.
