Tyree Wilson Heading into Contract Year With New Team

The New Orleans Saints declined defensive end Tyree Wilson's fifth-year option on Monday, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. Saints general manager Mickey Loomis called this "a one-year trial, and we'll see how it goes." During last week's 2026 NFL draft, the Saints acquired the former first-round edge rusher from the Las Vegas Raiders. The 25-year-old pass-rusher will head to the Big Easy after recording 91 tackles (57 solo), 12 sacks, 16 tackles for loss, 24 QB hits, four forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries in 50 games (seven starts) over his first three years with the Raiders. In 17 games in 2025, Wilson, the former seventh overall pick in 2023 out of Texas Tech, had a career-high 35 tackles (25 solo), four sacks, eight tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery. Had the Saints picked up Wilson's fifth-year option, it would have cost them $14.475 million in 2027. New Orleans is hoping their low-cost investment pays dividends with a change of scenery.

Saints Acquire Tyree Wilson in Trade With Raiders

The New Orleans Saints have acquired edge rusher Tyree Wilson from the Las Vegas Raiders, according to announcements from both organizations. The full trade sends Wilson and pick No. 219 to the Saints, while the Raiders receive the 150th overall selection. The Saints have been active in trade talks for a defensive end in recent days, as previous reports linked them to the Giants' Kayvon Thibodeaux. Instead of Thibodeaux, the Saints end up with a different former first-round pick. The No. 7 selection in 2023, Wilson has missed just one game through three NFL seasons. He has a modest seven starts to his name, racking up three forced fumbles and 8.5 sacks over the last two seasons. The Saints used the bulk of their draft picks in Rounds 1 through 4 on major offensive weapons, and now, they're bolstering their defense by adding a more experienced rusher. He should slot into an immediate starting role on a Saints defensive line that features fellow 2023 first-rounder Bryan Bresee.

Tyree Wilson Expected To Play Sunday

Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Tyree Wilson (illness) is expected to play in Week 3 versus the Pittsburgh Steelers. He had been listed as questionable after missing two days of practice this past week. He did manage to participate in a limited capacity on Friday. The 23-year-old has tallied three tackles through two games in 2023.

Raiders Activate Tyree Wilson From NFI List

The Las Vegas Raiders activated rookie first-round defensive end Tyree Wilson (foot) from the Non-Football Injury list on Wednesday, and he is now cleared to practice with the team at training camp. The Raiders needed some help with their pass rush after having the third-fewest sacks in the NFL in 2022, so they took Wilson with the seventh overall pick back in April. The 23-year-old has already missed some valuable practice time this offseason and summer due to a foot injury he suffered last November, but when he's healthy, the Raiders are hoping he'll be a difference-maker right away off the edge in the opponent's backfield.

Tyree Wilson Misses Offseason Workouts

Las Vegas Raiders rookie defensive end Tyree Wilson (foot) didn't take the field at all this offseason during organized team activities or minicamp while recovering from surgery to his right foot last November. He also had a follow-up procedure in March. Despite not getting any on-field repetitions, Wilson impressed his teammates with his classroom work and his 6-foot-6, 271-pound profile. "I've seen a bunch of highlights, but just from his physical gifts alone he can be a great player," defensive end Maxx Crosby said. "You can have tools, you can have every bit of talent -- that's the NFL, everybody's talented -- but it's what you do when you get in the building. He's had a great attitude so far. He seems like a great kid." It remains to be seen what the 23-year-old's exact role will be with the Raiders in his rookie season, but he has the potential to be an impact player on defense right away.

Tyree Wilson Agrees To Rookie Deal

Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Tyree Wilson has signed a four-year deal with the organization. The team selected Wilson with the No. 7 overall pick in the most recent draft. The Raiders are hopeful that Wilson can help improve this defense that finished 30th in sacks last season. At Texas Tech, Wilson finished with 14 sacks and 27.5 tackles for loss over the last two seasons. The expectation is that he can be an immediate impact player alongside Maxx Crosby on the defensive line. The Raiders have not experienced a ton of good luck in recent drafts, so hopefully it works out this time.

Tyree Wilson Taken At No. 7 In 2023 NFL Draft

The Raiders took Texas Tech defensive end Tyree Wilson with the No. 7 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Wilson had just three sacks in his first two collegiate seasons. However, he combined for 14 over the last two seasons. He had plenty of hype entering the Draft, and there were rumblings he could have been taken before Alabama linebacker Will Anderson Jr. But the 21-year-old must have done something right to end up in Vegas, especially since the team could have looked for its next quarterback. He has excellent size and strength, although he lacks speed. With that said, Wilson can make an immediate impact for the Raiders and has plenty of IDP upside.
