New Orleans Saints center Erik McCoy has agreed to a new deal with the organization. The former second round pick is coming off the worst season of his career. Despite that, the two sides have agreed to a five-year $63.75 million deal. McCoy is normally above average, but battled through a calf injury last season. The Saints believe in him enough to warrant giving him $40 million guaranteed. This deal locks up the 25-year-old with the Saints through the 2027 campaign.
The New Orleans Saints added starting center Erik McCoy to the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Thursday and activated defensive ends Carl Granderson and Jalyn Holmes from the list. McCoy is just another addition to the team's growing COVID-19 list, and he's unlikely to be active for Sunday's game against the division-rival Carolina Panthers. With McCoy likely out, either right guard Cesar Ruiz or backup center Will Clapp will replace him. The Saints offense is extremely depleted right now with Ryan Ramczyk still on the COVID list and Terron Armstead (knee) on track to miss another game. The good news is that quarterback Taysom Hill will return for the Week 17 game.
New Orleans Saints center Erik McCoy (calf) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Panthers. The 2019 second-round pick has appeared in 32 games and nearly 100 percent of snaps over the last two seasons. However, in Week 1, he was on the field for just 8.1 percent of snap before injuring himself. Guard/center Calvin Throckmorton is listed as McCoy's backup on the official Saints depth chart.
New Orleans Saints offensive guard Erik McCoy (calf) is expected to miss the next four games with a calf strain. McCoy suffered the injury in the first quarter of Sunday's win over the Packers- and was only on the field for five snaps. The 24-year-old has been a dependable starter on the Saints' offensive line in the last two seasons, as he earned solid overall grades for his work at the center spot. New Orleans worked out former Chiefs center Austin Reiter, who has also graded out very well by Pro Football Focus. The Saints could elect to sign Reiter and start him at center or go with Cesar Ruiz, who played the position in college, as their snapper moving forward. McCoy's absence is a definite blow to a strong offensive line, though it shouldn't change the fantasy outlooks of New Orleans' skill position players much.
