Former Kansas City Chiefs safety Justin Reid reached an agreement on Tuesday with the New Orleans Saints on a three-year, $31.5 million deal that includes $22.25 million fully guaranteed, a source tells ESPN's Adam Schefter. The Prairieville, Louisiana, native will be returning home after spending the last three years with the Chiefs. He played his first four seasons with the Houston Texans after they took him in the third round (68th overall) in the 2018 NFL draft. The 28-year-old defensive back has been solid in all seven of his NFL seasons with 80-plus total tackles in five of his seven campaigns. He played a critical role in helping the Chiefs make it to three straight Super Bowls and recorded 265 tackles (194 solo), four sacks, three interceptions, 23 pass breakups and a forced fumble in his three years in KC. Reid will be a starter in New Orleans alongside former Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu.
The Kansas City Chiefs placed safety Justin Reid (quadriceps) on the Non-Football Injury list for the start of training camp. Head coach Andy Reid said that Reid is "day-to-day." It's not ideal that Reid won't be able to practice with the rest of the team for the start of practices this summer, but it sounds like he'll be able to come off the NFI list sooner than later. The 27-year-old defensive back should be ready for the start of the 2024 regular season as the Chiefs look to become the first team in NFL history to win three straight Super Bowls. The former third-round pick (68th overall) of the Houston Texans in 2018 out of Stanford is entering his third year in KC after posting career-highs in total tackles (95) and sacks (three) while picking off one pass and breaking up seven passes in 16 regular-season games in 2023. He should once again be relevant in IPD fantasy leagues as a key piece of KC's secondary.
The Kansas City Chiefs signed free-agent safety Justin Reid to a three-year, $31.5 million deal with $20 million guaranteed on Monday, according to a source. The Chiefs now have some insurance in case Tyrann Mathieu goes elsewhere in free agency. Reid may not have the ceiling or instincts that Mathieu has, but he can at least be a serviceable safety in KC's secondary. The 25-year-old former third-round pick of the Houston Texans in 2018 had 66 tackles (41 solo), two interceptions, four passes defensed and a forced fumble in 13 games played for Houston in 2021. In his four NFL seasons with Houston, Reid has 315 total tackles (230 solo), 11 tackles for loss, six QB hits, seven interceptions (one touchdown), 23 passes defensed, two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and two sacks in 57 games (53 starts).
The Houston Texans have had dialogue with defensive back Justin Reid ahead of free agency and are in open talks about a new contract. He is set to become a free agent after his $2.443 million rookie deal with Houston has expired. "I've talked to his representatives, we've had some dialogue," Texans general manager Nick Caserio said Tuesday at the NFL Scouting Combine. "I'm certainly open to bringing Justin back. Justin is a good player. He's well thought of around the league. I know he has a lot of respect for head coach Lovie Smith. He had an opportunity to play in his system. If he has an opportunity to come back here, it's another year in the same system." The 25-year-old racked up 66 tackles, two interceptions, four pass deflections, and one forced fumble over 13 games in 2021. Reid and the Texans will work something out on a return but expect the safety to draw plenty of interest from NFL teams if he should hit free agency.
The Houston Texans placed veteran safety Justin Reid on the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Monday, raising the likelihood that the Week 17 loss to the San Francisco 49ers was his final game with the team. Reid is in the final year of his contract and isn't expected to return as a free agent during the offseason. If he doesn't play in the Week 18 regular season finale against the Houston Texans, the 24-year-old will finish the year with 66 tackles (41 solo), two interceptions, four passes defensed and a forced fumble in 13 games. The Texans also put safeties Jonathan Owens (wrist) and Grayland Arnold (ankle) on Injured Reserve, so they could be short-handed on Sunday against the current top seed in the AFC, the Tennessee Titans.
Houston Texans safety Justin Reid (concussion, illness) missed practice all week and has been ruled out for Week 15 against the Jacksonville Jaguars after he failed to clear the league's concussion protocols. The Texans defense actually has some streaming appeal in deeper leagues this week going up against a woeful Jaguars team with a rookie quarterback that just fired their head coach. However, losing Reid, one of the defenses best playmakers, won't help their cause. The primary safeties will be Eric Murray and Jonathan Owens, according to head coach David Culley. In 11 games this year, Reid has recorded 53 tackles, two interceptions and a forced fumble.
Houston Texans standout safety Justin Reid (knee) is expected to miss the Thursday night game against the Carolina Panthers due to a sprained knee that has kept him out of practice the last two days, according to league sources not authorized to speak publicly. Lonnie Johnson is expected to replace Reid in the starting lineup, in tandem with Eric Murray. Linebacker Kamu Grugier-Hill (knee) is also expected to be out Thursday. Reid is off to a fast start in 2021 with two interceptions and a forced fumble in two games, so his absence will be notable against a 2-0 Panthers team. Already a defense to avoid in fantasy, the Texans defense/special teams is well off the radar on the short week without their standout safety.
Houston Texans defensive back Justin Reid (knee) was a limited participant in Monday's practice. He exited Monday's loss to the Cleveland Browns early with a minor knee injury. The 24-year-old has racked up eight tackles (6 solos, 2 assists) and two interceptions over both games in 2021. Fantasy managers in IDP formats should continue to monitor his practice participation throughout the week. Reid's injury is considered minor and, barring a setback, is expected to play Thursday against the Carolina Panthers.
Houston Texans standout safety Justin Reid (hand) will miss the rest of the 2020 season after suffering a hand injury in the Week 14 loss to the Bears, according to a source. Reid's loss will be a big one for the final three games of the regular season, as he had 83 tackles and two sacks as the No. 34 IDP defensive back. The Texans Defense as a whole hasn't been on the fantasy radar in 2020, ranking 29th in the league in overall fantasy points through 14 weeks. Reid's loss should make Houston even more vulnerable through the air with cornerback Bradley Roby also out the rest of the way due to a suspension. The Colts offense could continue to put up some big numbers in Week 15 as a result.
Houston Texans safety Justin Reid has been removed from the Non-Football Injury list. Reid, who was in a car accident last week, had been on the list for precautionary measures, but is now cleared to practice. He'll be Houston's starting free safety and is coming off a rookie season in which he had 88 tackles and three interceptions, including a 101-yard pick-six against Washington. Reid is one of the more intriguing defensive backs in IDP this year because he should continue to take steps forward in his second season, and he also adds secondary help to a Texans defense that has all the pieces to be a strong defense both on the field and in fantasy.
