Cleveland Browns safety Morgan Burnett (Achilles) is officially done for the rest of the year after he tore his Achilles in the Thursday night win over the Steelers. The Browns also lost Myles Garrett to a season-ending suspension after he foolishly struck Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph with his own helmet at the end of regulation. Losing those two players for the rest of the season will make an impact for a Browns Defense that looked excellent against Pittsburgh's offense on Thursday night. Burnett had racked up 41 total tackles, two sacks and one interception on the season. Despite losing Garrett and Burnett, Cleveland's defense will again be on the streaming radar with the Dolphins coming to town in Week 12.
The Pittsburgh Steelers informed safety Morgan Burnett that they will release him by April 1 per the player's request, according to his agent, Kevin Conner. Both parties discussed trade possibilities before the release, according to a source. Pittsburgh signed the safety to a three-year, $14.25 million contract last season that included a $4.25 million signing bonus. Burnett missed four of the first six games of 2018 due to injury and recorded 30 tackles and six pass deflections in a sub-package role in 11 games. The 30-year-old had previously played eight seasons with the Packers.
Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said safety Morgan Burnett (groin) and slot cornerback Mike Hilton (elbow) are expected to practice this week. Getting both players back for Week 5 against a strong Falcons passing game would be huge for a secondary that has been roasted through four weeks of the season.
Free-agent safety Morgan Burnett is expected to finalize a deal to join the Pittsburgh Steelers on Tuesday morning. The Steelers were expected to make a move to shore up their secondary after releasing safeties Mike Mitchell and Robert Golden earlier in the month. Burnett, who had spent his entire eight-year career with the Packers, is coming off a season which saw him rack up 68 tackles in 12 games. Burnett is expected to start at safety across from Sean Davis this upcoming season.
