Neville Hewitt News
The Houston Texans re-signed linebacker Neville Hewitt to an undisclosed one-year deal on Thursday, according to a source. Hewitt will be returning to the Texans for his third season after finishing last year with 14 tackles (10 solo) in 14 games played (zero starts). Most of the 30-year-old's playing time came on special teams. Originally an undrafted free agent, Hewitt began his NFL career in 2015 with the Miami Dolphins and played three years with them before joining the New York Jets from 2018-20. He's likely to continue mainly as a special-teams contributor, so he won't have any value in IDP fantasy leagues. Hewitt has racked up 426 tackles (276 solo), 7.5 sacks, 22 tackles for loss, 19 QB hits, three interceptions, 13 passes defensed, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in his eight seasons in the league.
The Houston Texans re-signed linebacker Neville Hewitt to an undisclosed one-year deal on Saturday, according to his agent, Drew Rosenhaus. Hewitt will return for his second season in Houston after recording 60 tackles (37 solo) in 17 games (five starts) for the Texans in 2021. The 28-year-old played the first three seasons of his career with the Miami Dolphins before joining the New York Jets for three years from 2018-20. His best season came in 2020 with the Jets, when he totaled 134 tackles (91 solo), six tackles for loss, four QB hits, four passes defensed, a fumble recovery and two sacks in 16 starts. Neville has 7.5 career sacks in 99 games (44 starts) over seven NFL seasons and will not be on the fantasy radar in IDP formats.
Former New York Jets unrestricted free-agent linebacker Neville Hewitt is signing an undisclosed one-year deal with the Houston Texans on Friday, according to his agent, Drew Rosenhaus. Hewitt has racked up 248 tackles and 6.5 sacks in 44 games since 2018 with the Jets. The 28-year-old had a career year in 2020, posting career-highs in tackles (134) while also forcing a fumble in 16 starts. He was an undrafted free agent out of Marshall and spent the first three seasons of his NFL career with the Miami Dolphins. Hewitt will reunite with ex-Jets linebacker Jordan Jenkins, who also signed with Houston in free agency. A change in defensive schemes in New York and the salary cap situation likely led to the Jets letting Hewitt walk in free agency.
