The Indianapolis Colts released defensive lineman Raekwon Davis on Friday, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. The move saves the Colts $6.49 million on the 2025 salary cap. Davis was officially cut with a non-football illness designation. The 27-year-old defensive tackle played in all 17 games in his first year with the Colts in 2024 but didn't start a single game. In those 17 contests, he had only 15 tackles (seven solo), one tackle for loss and one pass breakup. The Colts signed Davis to a two-year, $14 million deal last offseason. Davis will now look to latch on with another team as defensive line depth in free agency. He was originally a second-round pick (56th overall) by the Miami Dolphins in 2020 out of the University of Alabama. In his five seasons in the NFL, Davis has 144 tackles (66 solo), two sacks, six tackles for loss and 10 QB hits in 80 games (48 starts).
Former Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Raekwon Davis signed a two-year, $14 million base-value deal with the Indianapolis Colts on Tuesday, according to his agent, Trevon Smith. After being taken in the second round by Miami in 2020 out of Alabama, Davis has accumulated 129 total tackles (59 solo), only two sacks, five tackles for loss and 10 QB hits in 63 games (48 starts) in four seasons. In all 17 regular-season games in 2023, the 26-year-old interior defensive lineman made seven starts and had 28 tackles (15 solo) and half a sack. Davis figures to be a rotational piece on the interior of Indy's defensive line in 2024 and can be avoided for IDP fantasy purposes.
Miami Dolphins defensive lineman Raekwon Davis (knee) has been activated from injured reserve ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Buccaneers and is set to return to the field. Davis logged just five snaps in the season opener before sustaining a knee injury that has sidelined him since. The team's second-round choice in the 2020 NFL Draft, Davis started 12 games last year and combined for 40 tackles while clogging the interior. Even with Davis back in the mix, the Dolphins defense faces a daunting task in Week 5 as they clash with Tom Brady and Tampa Bay's high-octane offense. Having allowed at least 27 points in each of the last three weeks, Miami's defensive unit can be avoided this week before a favorable Week 6 matchup vs. Jacksonville in London.
Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores said the team is hopeful that defensive tackle Raekwon Davis (knee) can return to practice this week now that he's eligible to return from Injured Reserve. Cornerback Byron Jones (quadriceps) is day-to-day after getting injured in the Week 4 loss to the Indianapolis Colts. Davis suffered a knee injury in the season opener and has been out since, but the 24-year-old could be ready to play in Week 5 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers if he returns to practice and doesn't suffer any setbacks. The Dolphins will have 21 days to activate him to the active roster once he officially comes off IR. Miami's defense/special teams should be avoided against Tom Brady and the Bucs this weekend.
Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Raekwon Davis (knee) was placed on Injured Reserve on Tuesday, putting him out at least three weeks. Davis was only able to play five defensive snaps in the Week 1 win over the New England Patriots before getting injured. The 24-year-old is one of the team's best run-stoppers, so he will certainly be missed. John Jenkins replaced Davis on the defensive line on Sunday and should see expanded playing time over the next three weeks. The Dolphins defense improved in the offseason, and it showed in their Week 1 victory. They should be in the streaming picture as a low-end starting defense for much of the season, including in Week 2 against the Buffalo Bills.
The Miami Dolphins have agreed to a four-year deal with Alabama defensive tackle Raekwon Davis. The organization took Davis with the No. 56 overall pick during the 2020 NFL Draft. He recorded 47 total tackles, three tackles for loss, and 0.5 sacks during the 2019 season. His senior year was a bit of a regression, but there is still plenty of potential there. The Dolphins are hopeful that Davis can be a reliable run-stopping starter in the NFL. He'll compete for playing time in camp, but has plenty of upside for the future.
The Miami Dolphins selected Alabama defensive lineman Raekwon Davis with the No. 56 overall pick in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft on Friday. Davis comes in at 6-foot-6, 311 pounds, so he's big and long on the defensive line and should help the Miami defense improve their run defense. However, without much burst, he's unlikely to bring much pass-rush ability, at least not right away. Davis has been slow off the snap in his college career and needs to learn how to use his strength and hands better. He finished his 2019 season with half a sack and 47 tackles for loss in 12 games.
