Cleveland Browns wide receiver Rod Streater (neck) suffered a fractured bone in his neck in the Week 6 loss to the Chargers and will miss the rest of the season. However, the team said he will not need surgery and that doctors expect him to make a full recovery. With rookie wideout Derrick Willies (collarbone) on Injured Reserve and Rashard Higgins (knee) out a few weeks, the Browns are running dangerously thin on receiving talent. Rookie Antonio Callaway has been terribly inefficient with his targets behind Jarvis Landry. Expect rookie Damion Ratley to see a much bigger role moving forward, and recently-signed Breshad Perriman could be active in Week 7 against the Buccaneers. Perhaps the Browns decide to sign a free agent. All of this also means that tight end David Njoku should continue to be a big part of the passing offense. He has 23 targets in the last two weeks and had a season-high 12 looks on Sunday.
The Cleveland Browns signed free-agent wide receiver Rod Streater on Monday. The sixth-year pro didn't play at all last season but had 18 catches for 191 yards and two touchdowns in 2016 with the 49ers. He'll provide depth behind Jarvis Landry, rookie Antonio Callaway and Rashard Higgins after the team traded Josh Gordon to the Patriots on Monday. Streater isn't a fantasy option.
Buffalo Bills wide receiver Rod Streater suffered a toe injury on Thursday in the Bills' second preseason game that caused him to be carted off the field. There is still no update on how long the injury will keep Streater sidelined, though the news that Anquan Boldin is retiring certainly opens up a role for him if and when he is able to return this season. In the 2013 season, Streater's second season in the NFL, he commanded 100 targets as part of a poor Raiders offense and tallied 60 receptions for 888 yards and four touchdowns. If he can get back on the field in a short amount of time, those types of numbers would not be out of the question for him given that he will once again be a part of an offense devoid of receiving options. Zay Jones, Jordan Matthews, and Charles Clay will likely attract targets ahead of him, but Streater could fill in as the second outside receiver this season.
Buffalo Bills wide receiver Rod Streater has "been one of the highlights of camp so far," according to head coach Sean McDermott. On Thursday, Sal Capaccio reported that Streater caught two touchdowns in practice, including one while going over the middle of the end zone. Opportunity knocks as the Bills are lacking proven options at the wide receiver position. Sammy Watkins is clearly the number one receiver assuming he can remain healthy, but after that the depth chart is somewhat uncertain with Zay Jones, Corey Brown, Andre Holmes, and Rod Streater all competing for roles in the offense. With this news, Streater certainly seems to be gaining momentum in the conversation. As far as fantasy impact, he remains a long shot to become relevant as he has only posted more than 20 catches twice in his five year career, with the last coming in 2013.
The Buffalo Bills signed free-agent wide receiver Rod Streater to an undisclosed deal Wednesday. Buffalo is still looking to build depth behind oft-injured Sammy Watkins, especially since rookie Zay Jones is also injured. Streater, however, isn't the answer. He had a career-high 60 catches and 888 yards back in 2013 with Oakland and caught just 18 passes for 191 yards and two touchdowns for the Niners last year. Streater isn't a lock to make the roster.
