Scott Tolzien News
According to Zak Keefer of the Indy Star, the Indianapolis Colts plan on splitting first-team quarterback reps between quarterbacks Scott Tolzien and Jacoby Brissett in team practices this week. Following Tolzien's abhorrent performance against Los Angeles, the Colts are desperately looking for someone to prevent the team from being winless when Andrew Luck returns from his shoulder injury. If Brissett gets an opportunity to start, you can be certain that there will be more upside for T.Y. Hilton and the rest of the receiving core in Week 2 against Arizona. His willingness to throw the deep ball is something that Tolzien simply doesn't have, meaning the fantasy value for skill position players will ultimately be there in a shootout-style matchup.
Indianapolis Colts' quarterback Scott Tolzien put forth an anemic performance in the team's season opener against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, completing 50 percent of his passes for 128 yards and throwing two interceptions returned for touchdowns. He was benched in the middle of the third quarter in favor of the newly acquired Jacoby Brissett, who proceeded to throw a 50-yard completion to wide receiver Donte Moncrief on the ensuing drive. The Luck-less Colts' offense was expected to sputter, but the real story of this game was how porous the defense looked. Tolzien simply isn't capable of surmounting huge deficits where the game script leans toward the pass and has made clear that even when forced to throw, there is little fantasy value in the skill position players around him.
Indianapolis Colts' general manager Chris Ballard stated on Thursday that quarterback Scott Tolzien will be the starter when the team heads to Los Angeles on Sunday, a move that surprises no one given that former-Patriot Jacoby Brissett was acquired quite recently and hasn't had a chance to acclimate to the offense. Despite the Rams missing Aaron Donald, their defense contains plenty of solid talent including Robert Quinn on the line and Mark Barron patrolling the middle. Tolzien will also be without stalwart center Ryan Kelly, meaning he will face plenty of pressure from the opposing pass rush. Expect very little out of the Colts' offense as a whole with Tolzien leading the way, especially the skill position players.
