The Los Angeles Chargers signed free-agent tight end Stephen Anderson to their practice squad and released defensive back Mark Webb Jr. from the practice squad in a corresponding move. The move comes as the Chargers look to add depth at the position heading into a Week 11 contest against the Green Bay Packers with both Gerald Everett (back) and Donald Parham Jr. (hip) banged up. Neither player was able to practice on Wednesday and they could both be in danger of sitting out this weekend. If one or both of Everett and Parham are limited or out against Green Bay, the Chargers would be forced to give Stone Smartt or Nick Vannett more playing time. Anderson has yet to play in a game in 2023. He has 63 catches for 715 yards and three touchdowns in six NFL seasons and spent 2019-21 with the Chargers.
Free-agent tight end Stephen Anderson has signed a one-year deal with the Arizona Cardinals, according to Aaron Wilson of Pro Football Network. The six-year veteran previously spent time with the Texans and Chargers. Last season, he caught 16 passes for 165 yards and his first touchdown since 2017. Currently 29 years old, Anderson will likely compete with Deon Yelder and Darrell Daniels for the third-string tight end role in Glendale this coming summer.
Los Angeles Chargers tight end Stephen Anderson had his best game of the season in a Week 9 victory versus the Philadelphia Eagles. Anderson saw a season-high four targets and caught all four balls for 39 yards and his first touchdown of the season. Anderson's touchdown came on a two-yard pass from quarterback Justin Herbert to give the Chargers an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter. Despite the nice performance, Anderson remains behind Jared Cook and Donald Parham Jr. on the depth chart. Fantasy managers can safely leave Anderson on waivers for his Week 10 matchup versus the Minnesota Vikings.
The Los Angeles Chargers re-signed tight end Stephen Anderson to an undisclosed deal. Anderson played in all 16 games (three starts) last year and proved to be reliable tight end depth behind Hunter Henry. He finished the season with eight catches for 106 yards and no touchdowns while averaging 13.3 yards per catch. Anderson was also used as the team's primary run-blocking tight end after injuries to both Henry and Virgil Green. He's a smaller, athletic tight end that can work out of the backfield as a lead blocker as well as a pass-catcher. Behind veteran Jared Cook, Anderson and Donald Parham will serve as tight end depth for the Bolts. Anderson will only have fantasy appeal if Cook misses time with injury.
Los Angeles Chargers tight Stephen Anderson caught six of his four targets for 48 yards in Week 16 versus the Denver Broncos. Anderson saw the start in place of Hunter Henry (COVID-19) on Sunday and made the most of his opportunity. Despite the nice performance, Henry is expected in Week 17 and that would limit the amount of snaps Anderson would have. Anderson can safely remain on the waiver wire for now.
The New England Patriots signed free-agent tight end Stephen Anderson on Thursday. Anderson was recently cut by the Texans last weekend, and the Patriots curiously play Houston in Week 1. New England already has Rob Gronkowski, Dwayne Allen and Jacob Hollister on roster, so Anderson is unlikely to see much playing time unless an injury occurs.
The New England Patriots worked out free-agent tight end Stephen Anderson on Tuesday, according to a league source not authorized to speak publicly. Anderson was cut by the Texans on Sunday after catching 36 passes for two touchdowns over two years with Houston. He'd be behind Rob Gronkowski and Dwayne Allen if he signed in New England.
The Houston Texans have waived tight end Stephen Anderson. Anderson, a popular waiver add during the latter stages of the 2017 season after he caught five balls for 79 yards and a touchdown against the Titans, came into camp as one of the team's top tight ends, but the emergence of rookies Jordan Akins and Jordan Thomas made Anderson expendable. It will be interesting to see where he ends up, but he's unlikely to hold any fantasy value this season regardless of the situation.
Houston Texans tight end Stephen Anderson is on the roster bubble and is competing with rookie Jordan Thomas for the final spot. Ryan Griffin will be the starter and will be more involved in the passing game this year. Rookie Jordan Akins is expected to also be a receiving threat, while the team is trying to develop Thomas into a blocking tight end. General manager Brian Gaine has spoken highly of Thomas' potential and size. There just doesn't appear to be any room for Anderson. Avoid him in all leagues.
Houston Texans tight end Stephen Anderson was a popular waiver add at one point during the 2017 season thanks to his solid ability as a receiver, but in Houston's first unofficial depth chart Anderson sits fifth at the position behind starter Ryan Griffin, rookies Jordan Akins and Jordan Thomas, and MyCole Pruitt. Anderson was expected to be the primary backup to Griffin, but this news suggests he might not even make the team's roster. It's hard to see any fantasy value for Anderson at this point.
