Stephon Gilmore Says He's Asymptomatic

New England Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore confirmed that he is asymptomatic after testing positive for COVID-19 this week. Gilmore is also claiming that he followed all of the league's COVID-19 protocols prior to testing positive. Because of the positive test, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year won't practice with the team on Wednesday and is in danger of missing the Week 5 contest against the Broncos, if the game is even played at all. The game this Sunday could be in danger of being postponed with both Gilmore and quarterback Cam Newton testing positive for COVID-19. The good news is that both players are reportedly asymptomatic, but it's something to keep a close eye on the rest of the week.

Stephon Gilmore Tests Positive For COVID-19

New England Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore was the only player on the team to test positive for COVID-19 from Tuesday's round of testing, according to a source. The reigning Defensive Player of the Year joins quarterback Cam Newton on the COVID-19 list, and Gilmore isn't expected to practice on Wednesday. At this point, it's highly unlikely that Gilmore will be cleared to play in Week 5 against the Broncos. Still, even if Gilmore misses this weekend's game, the Patriots Defense should be considered a strong fantasy unit against a Broncos team that remains depleted of their offensive weapons. Wide receiver Courtland Sutton (knee) is out for the year and they might also be without quarterback Drew Lock (shoulder) and tight end Noah Fant (ankle).

Patriots Give Stephon Gilmore A Raise

The New England Patriots gave reigning Defensive Player of the Year Stephon Gilmore a significant raise on Friday, bumping his salary from $10.5 million to $15.5 million this year with a chance to earn up to $17.5 million in incentives. This comes despite the fact that Gilmore has two years left on his contract, according to league sources. The first-team All-Pro cornerback had 53 total tackles, a career-high six interceptions (two for touchdowns) and a career-high 20 passes defensed in 2019. He was also a first-team All-Pro in 2018 in New England when he had two interceptions and 20 passes defensed. Gilmore's presence in the secondary makes the Patriots Defense a strong starting fantasy unit again in 2020 and in Week 1 against the Dolphins.
