Las Vegas Raiders running backs Jalen Richard and Theo Riddick have been placed on the league's reserve/COVID-19 list, which will keep both out of training camp for the time being. With Kenyan Drake on the non-football injury list, the Raiders are left with just one of their top four backs at camp in Josh Jacobs. This could be a chance for a pair of rookie UDFAs, Trey Ragas and Garrett Groshek, to fight for a roster spot, especially Riddick's spot. Jacobs is rarely used as a receiving back, so if one of the duo impresses, they could be able to find a small role with this team in 2021, though playing behind Jacobs and Kenyan Drake complicates things, as does the coaching staff's love for Richard.
The Las Vegas Raiders re-signed running back Theo Riddick to a one-year, $1.175 million deal. The deal includes $50,000 guaranteed. Riddick's deal comes after the Raiders made a surprising move to bring in former Arizona Cardinals running back Kenyan Drake as the primary backfield complement for Josh Jacobs. With Drake and Jalen Richard also in the fold, Riddick will likely just be running back insurance as a receiving threat. The 30-year-old had a much bigger role with the Detroit Lions from 2014-18, but he hasn't done much in the last two years. He spent 2019 on the Denver Broncos Injured Reserve and played in just four games for the Raiders in 2020.
Denver Broncos running back Theo Riddick has suffered a fractured shoulder and will miss 6-8 weeks of action. The Broncos had just signed Riddick to give them a better third-down back than Devontae Booker, but they'll now be without him for at least some regular season games. Riddick's fantasy value takes a hit with this news, but he's still got PPR appeal once he's back on the field. Booker's not likely to play enough of a role in the meantime to make him fantasy relevant, though.
The Denver Broncos have signed former Lions running back Theo Riddick. The 28-year-old played six seasons in Detroit before being released by the team this past offseason, finishing with just 1,023 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 288 attempts. Though his running numbers werent impressive by any means, Riddick shined at times out of the backfield, finishing his tenure in Detroit with 2,238 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns. He will likely be relegated behind Phillip Lindsay and Royce Freeman, with Devontae Booker knocking on his door for the third spot on the teams depth chart. However, as of right now, he possesses little (if any) fantasy value and can be safely ignored in all formats.
The Lions are releasing running back Theo Riddick, who has played for Detroit since 2013. Riddick has had at least 53 catches in each of the past four seasons and was a solid late round PPR back, but with the release there's now a ton more uncertainty with him. In the right spot, he can be just as effective as a third-down back as he was in Detroit, but it's unclear what teams are still looking to fill that role. Meanwhile in Detroit, Kerryon Johnson is looking like a potential every-down back with this move.
Detroit Lions running back Theo Riddick received just three carries for two yards, while also catching four passes for a measly seven yards. This was one of the worst games of the season for the pass-catching back but it doesn't help his case that the offense has been down right awful recently. He typically has value in PPR formats but not next week against Green Bay. His workload is just too unpredictable to trust in any meaningful matchup.
Detroit Lions running back Theo Riddick rushed for 47 yard on just eight carries, while also hauling in two passes for a paltry nine yards in the loss to the Bills on Sunday. Riddick has seen an increase in carries the past three games which typically would help increase his floor; however, it has taken away from his work in the passing game and he still has yet to find the end zone this season. In Week 16 against the Vikings, Riddick will continue to be a low-end flex option in PPR leagues, but pay attention to Kerryon Johnson's availability because if the rookie returns from injury, Riddick's rushing numbers should all but disappear.
Detroit Lions running back Theo Riddick has been serviceable in the absence of Kerryon Johnson, catching 14 passes for 104 yards, while rushing for another 72 yards in three games. This week against the Bills, Riddick has a chance to see even more work in the passing game with Bruce Ellington (hamstring) not practicing so far this week and not looking likely to suit up on Sunday. Buffalo has allowed running backs to catch 74 passes out of the backfield this season, so expect Riddick to get a healthy target share. Even with the solid workload, Riddick is nothing more than a flex option in deep PPR leagues this week.
Detroit Lions running back Theo Riddick took six carries for 28 yards and caught all four of his targets for 30 yards in Sunday's win over the Cardinals. The 27-year-old still has yet to find pay dirt this season but continues to be a steady low-ceiling flex option in PPR leagues. Next week, the Lions travel to take on the Bills.
Theo Riddick Could See Decent Workload Against Cardinals
Detroit Lions running back Theo Riddick had his highest rushing totals of the season in Week 13, taking eight carries for 32 yards. However, it was at the expense of his workload in the passing game that has kept him fantasy relevant for almost the entirety of his career. With Kerryon Johnson still not practicing, Riddicks snap count should still be safe but with his lack of touchdown upside, it would be hard to trust the 27-year-old back in your first round playoff matchup.
