The New Orleans Saints waived wide receiver Tommylee Lewis (undisclosed) with an injury designation on Sunday. The Saints didn't report what type of injury Lewis was dealing with, but New Orleans ultimately moved on from the wideout. The 28-year-old appeared in only five games in 2020, hauling in one catch on three targets for five yards. Lewis will look to latch onto another team in need of WR depth. The former New Orleans Saint does not have any fantasy value in 2021.
New Orleans Saints wide receiver Tommylee Lewis (undisclosed) was placed on the injured reserve Friday. The Saints didn't report what type of injury Lewis was dealing with, but he is expected to start the season on the injured reserve. The 28-year-old appeared in only five games in 2020, hauling in one catch on three targets for five yards. Lewis is buried on the Saints WR depth chart and wasn't on the fantasy radar in 2021 before the injury.
The Carolina Panthers have signed former New Orleans Saints wide receiver Tommylee Lewis, per ESPN's David Newton. The 27-year-old played for the Saints from 2016-2018, but has been floating around ever since. The wideout signed with the Lions in the 2019 offseason only to get cut before the season started, then followed it up with a stint in the XFL before finally signing with the Saints again this offseason only to get cut. Now, Lewis will look to carve out a bigger role on the Panthers, but he will likely end up being far down the depth chart. Lewis has 20 receptions, 252 yards, and two touchdowns in his three-year career.
The New Orleans Saints placed wide receiver Tommylee Lewis (knee) on Injured Reserve on Wednesday after he injured his knee in Week 2 against the Browns. Lewis didn't have any catches in the two games this season. He wasn't a fantasy factor to begin with.
New Orleans Saints wide receiver Tommylee Lewis was the star of the first preseason game against Cleveland. Lewis brought in 10 catches for 128 yards and a touchdown. This included a highlight-reel, 32-yard diving grab in front of the end zone. Lewis will likely have a role on the team as a return man and special teams player, but he is trying to carve out a role as a reserve receiver. He is battling with Corey Fuller, who has been impressing in camp as well. Lewis doesn't figure to have value in redraft leagues unless injury strikes one of the Saints' primary receivers.
Tommylee Lewis Goes for 43 Yards, Puts Speed on Display
Rookie receiver Tommylee Lewis got a chance to be involved in the Saints offense with the absence of Willie Snead. He delivered 43 yards on three receptions and carried the ball for a one yard gain. Lewis, an undrafted rookie out of Northern Illinois, stands at 5'7" but is a speed burner who also contributes in the return game. It is now known that he was mentored by Bill Parcells, who encouraged Sean Payton to give him a chance in training camp. Lewis currently stands as the #5 receiver in New Orleans, but could get the chance to make more plays like tonight if Snead or any other Saints receiver misses time.
Tommylee Lewis Showing Off His Speed in Camp, Fighting to Make Roster
Undrafted free agent Tommylee Lewis is making an impression so far in Saints training camp. It will be an uphill battle to earn a roster spot for the diminutive 5'7" receiver out of Northern Illinois, but he is doing his part. Lewis scored a pair of touchdowns during team drills on Thursday and has shown burst in the return game, which may be his best bet to make the roster. He even drew praise after practice from head coach Sean Payton. Lewis did not put up impressive numbers in college, but injuries hampered his senior year, resulting in a redshirt. Last season he caught 34 balls for 398 yards in nine games. His prowess as a kick returner is what likely caught the Saints attention. Lewis averaged 25.3 yards per return in his college career and compiled over 1,300 yards his first two seasons alone. His role in the return game disappeared by his senior year, however, making him a minor contributor for a smaller program. Lewis may catch on as a return man and fifth receiver for the Saints if he continues to catch the coaches' attention in camp, but he will have to face opposing defenses to prove his value.
