Lions Sign Tre'Quan Smith To Futures Deal

The Detroit Lions signed free-agent wide receiver Tre'Quan Smith to a Reserve/Futures deal on Wednesday, according to a league source. Smith spent time with the New Orleans Saints and Denver Broncos in 2023. He was active for just one game with the Broncos but wasn't targeted at all on offense. The 28-year-old former third-round pick by the Saints in 2018 out of Central Florida had 131 catches on 196 targets for 1,764 yards and 18 touchdowns in his five years with the Saints, with 10 of his 18 scores coming in his first two seasons in the league. Smith will compete for a 53-man roster spot in Detroit this summer at training camp and in the preseason.

Broncos Sign Tre'Quan Smith To Their Practice Squad

The Denver Broncos signed free-agent wide receiver Tre'Quan Smith (groin) to their practice squad on Tuesday and waived cornerback Essang Bassey and released wide receiver Michael Bandy from the practice squad in corresponding moves. Smith began the season on Injured Reserve with the New Orleans Saints due to a groin injury he suffered in training camp, but he's apparently healthy now and will have another opportunity in Denver as he reunites with his former head coach Sean Payton. The 27-year-old remains well off the fantasy radar for now. In his five seasons with the Saints since 2018, Smith has put up 131 receptions (196 targets) for 1,764 yards and 18 touchdowns in 66 games (35 starts). He had just 19 catches for 278 yards and one score in 15 games (six starts) in 2022.

Broncos Visiting With Tre'Quan Smith

The Denver Broncos are bringing in former New Orleans Saints wide receiver Tre'Quan Smith (groin) for a visit after he was released by the Saints on Tuesday. Smith played five seasons for the Saints, with four coming under head coach Sean Payton. The 27-year-old former third-round pick by the Saints in 2018 out of Central Florida had 131 receptions in 196 targets for 1,764 yards and 18 touchdowns in his five years in the Big Easy. The Broncos will put Smith through a physical before potentially signing him after the Saints placed him on Injured Reserve to begin the 2023 season. Payton is familiar with Smith from their time together in New Orleans, but he'll be a long shot to return any kind of fantasy value if he ends up signing with the Broncos.

Tre'Quan Smith Becomes A Free Agent

The New Orleans Saints released wide receiver Tre'Quan Smith (groin) from Injured Reserve on Tuesday, making him a free agent. Smith will have to prove he's past his groin injury before another team takes a chance on him as receiver depth. The 27-year-old former third-round pick by the Saints in 2018 out of Central Florida has yet to play in 2023 and had 19 receptions for 278 yards and a career-low one touchdown on 27 targets in 15 games (six starts) last year for New Orleans. Smith has 131 catches on 196 targets for 1,764 yards and 18 touchdowns in 66 games (35 starts) in five NFL seasons, all with the Saints.

Tre'Quan Smith Lands On Injured Reserve

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Tre'Quan Smith (groin) landed on the injured reserve list on Saturday. He will miss at least the first four games of the 2023-24 campaign. The wideout underwent surgery on his groin back in August, so this shouldn't come as a surprise to fantasy managers. That said, Smith has been a hit-or-miss fantasy option throughout his career, totaling 131 grabs for 1,764 yards and 18 touchdowns in 66 regular-season appearances. Although Michael Thomas and Chris Olave should be the preferred targets for Derek Carr this year, Smith's absence is still a blow to those participating in deeper formats.

Tre'Quan Smith Undergoes Surgery, To Miss Season Opener

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Tre'Quan Smith (groin) underwent surgery in August and is expected to miss the Week 1 regular season opener against the Tennessee Titans. Smith also missed most of training camp and all three preseason games due to the injury, so there's easily a chance that he misses more than one regular season game for the Saints while he recovers. Rashid Shaheed (groin) is also battling injury and could be slowed early on, which could give both Keith Kirkwood and A.T. Perry some opportunities behind Chris Olave and Michael Thomas. Smith's playing time dropped down the stretch last year as Shaheed impressed, and he finished with just 19 catches, 278 receiving yards and one touchdown in 15 games (six starts). The 27-year-old is off the fantasy radar for now.

Tre'Quan Smith, Rashid Shaheed Exit Early During Practice

New Orleans Saints wide receivers Tre'Quan Smith (groin) and Rashid Shaheed (groin) were both forced to exit early during Saturday's practice. This is tough as both players are battling for slot snaps alongside Chris Olave and Michael Thomas this season. The early departures are alarming, but it's uncertain if these injuries are significant. Fantasy managers will have to wait and see once the Saints give another update on their status. However, neither player is likely to have a ton of value with Olave and Thomas getting a majority of the targets.

Tre'Quan Smith A Low-End Flex In Week 7

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Tre'Quan Smith caught his first touchdown of 2022 in Week 7's loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. He will look for more success against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 7's Thursday night game. The Cardinals have been tough on opposing wide receivers, allowing the sixth-fewest fantasy points per game to the position through six weeks. Smith doesn't have a safe enough role to blindly trust in fantasy but he is on the board as a boom/bust flex option in Week 7.

Tre'Quan Smith Snags All Three Targets

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Tre'Quan Smith was asked to pick up the slack with the team shorthanded on Sunday. The Saints were without three of their top wide receivers for Sunday's Week 6 matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals. Smith hauled in all three of his targets for 43 yards and a touchdown in the loss. It's surprising that Smith didn't see more targets than that, but made the most of his chances. He could have some streaming value next week, assuming the Saints don't get healthy at wideout. The Saints have a quick turnaround with a matchup against the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday.

Tre'Quan Smith's Week 4 Outlook For Fantasy Football

New Orleans wide receiver Tre'Quan Smith appeared in his first game of the 2022 season in Week 3, going for four catches and 105 yards in a loss to the Carolina Panthers. Smith was pressed into service after the team lost both Michael Thomas (toe) and Jarvis Landry (foot) to injuries. Smith will look for another big game in Week 4's home matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. Smith's Week 4 value in fantasy hinges directly on the availability of Thomas and Landry. If they don't play, he can be treated as a boom/bust flex option. If they do suit up, Smith should not be in fantasy lineups for Week 4.
