Yannick Ngakoue News
The Chicago Bears signed top available free-agent defensive end Yannick Ngakoue to a one-year, $10.5 million deal on Thursday, including $10 million guaranteed. The deal was confirmed by his agent, Drew Rosenhaus. Ngakoue has been great the last two years with the Las Vegas Raiders and Indianapolis Colts, totaling 19.5 sacks in 32 starts, although he ended last season with a neck injury. The 28-year-old has also had at least 8.5 sack in all seven of his NFL seasons, so he will be a big boost to a Bears defense that had a league-low 20 sacks in 2022. Ngakoue doesn't do much in terms of tackling and stopping the run, so he's a one-dimensional defensive lineman in IDP fantasy leagues, and it's unclear exactly how healthy he is.
Free-agent defensive end Yannick Ngakoue is still searching for a new home, but has made it clear he's not going to play for a sub-par team. Ngakoue said that he wants stability and a legitimate chance to pursue a title. That's fair to say considering Ngakoue has bounced around a bit since being drafted in the third round by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2016. He spent his first four seasons of his career in Jacksonville. Since then, Ngakoue has played for four teams in three seasons. Last season, Ngakoue recorded 29 tackles, 16 quarterback hits, and 9.5 sacks in 15 games for the Indianapolis Colts. The 28-year-old still has plenty left in the tank and could be a legitimate boost to a contending defense.
The Indianapolis Colts placed defensive end Yannick Ngakoue (throat) on Injured Reserve on Saturday, ending his 2022 season with just two games to go. Ngakoue suffered a throat injury in Week 16 and will require surgery. The 27-year-old has been Indy's best pass-rusher this year, so it will be a big loss for their final two games, starting this weekend against the New York Giants. Ngakoue will finish his first year with the Colts with 29 tackles (18 solo), eight tackles for loss, 16 QB hits, a team-high 9.5 sacks and a forced fumble in his 15 starts. The Colts will hope Kwity Paye and Dayo Odenyingbo can step up without Ngakoue in these final two games. Indy's defense/special teams should be ignored by fantasy managers in Week 17.
