The Detroit Lions released running back Zach Zenner on Tuesday. Kerryon Johnson, C.J. Anderson and rookie Ty Johnson are expected to be the top three on Detroit's depth chart heading into the season opener. The 27-year-old Zenner never saw consistent touches as a depth option in the backfield in his four seasons with the Lions. He had 55 attempts for 265 yards and three scores on the ground in eight games in 2018.
Detroit Lions running back Zach Zenner had just four carries for 21 yards in the Lions third preseason game against the Bills. It appears that Zenner will likely fall behind running back Ty Johnson on the depth chart, into the fourth position. Regardless, Zenner is a talented special team player and should still make the final squad. Zenner is not fantasy relevant.
Detroit Lions running back Zach Zenner toted the ball eight times for 45 yards in Sunday's 27-9 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. He also caught two passes for 22 yards in the loss. Zenner has been very active since Kerryon Johnson got injured a few weeks back, and has been splitting carries with LeGarrette Blount. Zenner will have a decent matchup next week with Green Bay but his role in the offense is not worthy of him being in your lineups.
Detroit Lions running back Zach Zenner took 10 carries for 45 yards, while also finding pay dirt in the loss to the Bills on Sunday. The score was Zenner's second on the season and the second in consecutive weeks. He also caught three passes in the game, but didn't net any positive yardage. The 27-year-old has come on in the past two weeks to take a solid bulk of the rushing opportunities away from LeGarrette Blount. It will be interesting to see if Kerryon Johnson returns next week against the Vikings, because if he does, Zenner is sure to take a seat to the rookie. However, in the meantime, Zenner is the Lions running back to own heading into a tough matchup with Minnesota. It's safe to assume his increase in volume means he has gained the trust of head coach Matt Patricia, but he's still not a start-able option heading into Week 16.
Zach Zenner Could See More Carries Against The Bills
Detroit Lions running back Zach Zenner garnered a season high 12 carries for 54 yards, while scoring his first touchdown of the season last week against the Cardinals. Before Week 14, Zenner had only registered four carries for 28 yards, so it was interesting to see a big jump in workload. This week against the Bills, Zenner will most likely share carries with LeGarrette Blount again. However, that doesn't make him worthwhile in fantasy and he shouldn't be considered for any lineups.
Zach Zenner Scores First Touchdown Of Season Against Cardinals
Detroit Lions running back Zach Zenner rushed for 54 yards on 12 carries and scored his first touchdown of the season in the 17-3 win over the Cardinals. Since re-signing with the Lions earlier in the season and returning from injury in Week 9, Zenner has received breadcrumbs in the Lions rushing attack. However, that all changed on Sunday when he was the team's best back. It's most likely lightning in a bottle and his solid day doesn't make him appealing for fantasy. The Lions take on the Bills in Week 15.
Detroit Lions running back Zach Zenner rushed for nine yards on just two carries, while also catching a pass for four yards. The rookie Kerryon Johnson (knee) was inactive and LeGarrette Blount had been highly ineffective as of late, so it was anticipated that Zenner would get more of a workload against the Bears. However, Blount rushed for a season high 88 yards and took away any need to use Zenner more than the Lions had to. The 27-year-old will likely stay in a change-of-pace role when he is active.
Zach Zenner Could Have A Role In Lions Offense In Week 12
Detroit Lions running back Zach Zenner was re-signed by the Lions before Week 10. He has received just one carry in two games but with the injury to Kerryon Johnson (knee), Zenner could potentially be the ball carrier who gets the most work against the Bears on Thursday. However, this doesn't make him useful for fantasy purposes, as the Bears have allowed just 632 yards and one touchdown to running backs. Johnson owners are hopeful that the rookie isn't out for long, but in the meantime, Zenner may be the best rushing option for Detroit.
The Detroit Lions placed running back Zach Zenner (back) on Injured Reserve on Saturday after he left the final preseason game with a back injury. That will end Zenner's 2018 season.
Detroit Lions running back Zach Zenner suffered a back injury in the first half of the preseason game versus the Cleveland Browns. Zenner drew the start for Detroit and only got one carry and one target before leaving with the injury, while his only carry was for a one-yard loss. The 26-year-old was on the bubble to make the roster along with Ameer Abdullah. Many expected Abdullah to draw a lot of work against the Browns, but through halftime he had yet to see the field. With Zenner and Dwayne Washington receiving the only carries for Detroit, it is a possibility that Abdullah has locked up his spot on the 53-man roster.
