NHL Underdog Fantasy Picks (Friday the 17th)

Free NHL Prop Picks

With football over and NBA on an all-star break, we’re turning to the NHL for some weekend daily fantasy action. There are five games on tonight’s slate for props and Hockey Bets.

  • Pittsburgh @ NY Islanders
  • Chicago @ Ottawa
  • Dallas @ Minnesota
  • Los Angeles @ Ahaheim
  • NY Rangers @ Edmonton

Connor McDavid Over 4 shots

The Oilers hosting the Rangers is easily one of the best games on the slate. Both teams have had a day of rest and should bring their very best in a matchup with heavy firepower. McDavid has had 15 shots in his last two games and at least four shots in six of his last 7 games. McDavid averages 4.22 shots per game on the road and should be motivated as Edmonton has lost their last two games.

Kris Letang Over 2 Shots

Letang and the Penguins are finishing off a successful four-game road trip tonight as they take on the New York Islanders. The team went 2-1 on the west coast and look to grab another win against a struggling Islanders squad. Despite the road trip, the Pens have had two days’ rest since their last game, which should play an important role tonight. Letang hasn’t been shooting as much as fans would like in 2023, but when he does he usually scores. Luckily the Islanders do allow a large number of shots to the defenseman. In their last three games, the Ottawa Senator and Vancouver Canucks DMEN both contributed 20.5% of their shots in wins against the Islanders and the Canadians saw 45.1% of the shots come from their defensemen.

With such a low number to hit, I would be surprised if Letang doesn’t get at least 2 shots.

Brock Nelson Over 3 Shots

Sticking with the Islanders and Penguins matchup, on the flip side of the ice I like Brock Nelson to hit the net at least 3 times. Nelson has had 16 shots in his last three games. One could argue that number is high as they were trailing in all three of the past three games, but Nelson is also on a 3-game goal-scoring streak. When a player is hot, don’t bet against them, tail them.

Artemi Panarin Over 2.5 Shots

February has been Panarin’s month. Since the all-star game, the 31-year-old veteran has a five-game point streak that’s included a four-goal game and 12 total points. While his shots are a little more random, the over/under for the game tonight is 7. You don’t usually see that number often, as 6.5 is usually a popular total line, so 7 is very telling in my opinion.

Adrian Kempe Over 3.5 Shots

I would really love this prop bet line more if the line was 3, but the matchup is justified. The Kings play the Ducks tonight, a bottom-feeder team that leads the league in allowing the most shots against. The Ducks average 39.5 shots per game, which is four more shots allowed than the second-worst team, the Arizona Coyotes.

Kempe and Kevin Fiala lead the team in shooting percentage share and both play on the power play, the Kings are fighting for a playoff spot and need to take care of business when playing bad teams. If you think 3.5 is too high, I won’t judge you, just play the other four, but considering their playing the ducks I think he hits it.

Why Should I Play At Underdog Fantasy?

Underdog Fantasy is one of my favorite ways to play fantasy sports. There are no waivers, trades, or lineup settings; there’s no league management after you draft. It also offers one of the best interfaces on the market. But, don’t take my word for it; If you head over to the App Store. You can verify it has a 4.7 rating with over 3,400 reviews.

  • Fun – I have recommended Underdog Fantasy to a number of people, all with different levels of sports competitiveness, and knowledge of sports, and they have all found the games at Underdog Fantasy to be fun.
  • Interface – The Underdog Fantasy app leaves little to be desired. The app is lightning-fast, slick, and easy to use. The design and layouts are easy to navigate with light and dark mode options, and draft rooms fill rapidly, which allows you to draft a team in minutes.
  • Better Chances To Win  With Underdog, you don’t have to worry about a salary cap or being beaten by an expert who mass-entered a tournament with maximum lineup entries, used optimizers, or any other trick in the book to beat the daily player. Every owner gets one team and one shot at winning their league. Lastly, the player pool is much smaller than DraftKings or FanDuel, making it easier to cash.
