Veteran center Brandon Sutter has announced his retirement from the NHL after the Edmonton Oilers released him from his professional tryout with the team. Sutter attempted to make a comeback after sitting out the past two seasons. The 34-year-old was unable to play because of long COVID. Sutter was the 11th pick in the 2007 NHL Draft by the Carolina Hurricanes. He debuted with the team in 2009-10 and played three seasons with the Hurricane before moving on to the Pittsburgh Penguins. Following three years in Pittsburgh, Sutter joined the Vancouver Canucks in 2015. He logged 770 regular-season games in the league and tallied 289 points (152 goals, 137 assists).
Vancouver Canucks forward Brandon Sutter (upper body) won't be in the lineup on Monday against Edmonton. He should be considered day-to-day for now. The 32-year-old has notched nine goals and 12 points this season in 43 outings with 65 shots and a minus-nine rating. The Canucks have a hectic end-of-the-year schedule due to their COVID-19 outbreak, so they'll need all the warm bodies they can get, and hopefully, Sutter can return soon. Vancouver rolls out Braden Holtby in goal on Monday with the veteran trying to end a two-game losing streak.
Vancouver Canucks forward Brandon Sutter found the back of the net three times as his team ran over the visiting Ottawa Senators 7-1 on Monday. The 31-year-old tallied in each period, including his final goal with just 54 seconds remaining in the contest. Despite not carrying much fantasy relevance in quite some time, Sutter is now off to a nice start with four goals through his initial eight games of the campaign. He hasn't buried 20 markers since the 2014-2015 season while with the Pittsburgh Penguins but he may carry some streamer value this week with two more matchups versus the Sens on Wednesday and Thursday.
