Thatcher Demko Resumes Skating

Vancouver Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko (knee) is back skating and working on the ice this week, according to CHEK's Rick Dhaliwal. Demko is working his way back from a knee injury and was expected to miss the preseason. However, his return to the ice might signal that he could be game-ready sooner than previously expected. The American netminder enjoyed a career year in 2023-24, posting a 35-14-2 record with five shutouts and allowing 2.45 goals with a .918 save percentage. Despite the positive news regarding Demko, Dhaliwal also reported on Tuesday that the Canucks continue to pursue unrestricted free agent Kevin Lankinen as an extra option between the pipes.

Arturs Silovs Expected To Be Fine For Training Camp

Vancouver Canucks goaltender Arturs Silovs (knee) is expected to be good to go for the start of training camp. Silovs pulled out from Latvia's Olympic qualifying tournament last week due to knee inflammation. However, Team Latvia general manager Rudolfs Kalvinitis believes Silovs will be fine for the Canucks camp, which opens on Sept. 19. The Canucks are already without Thatcher Demko (knee), who's set to miss the preseason, so the team can breathe a sigh of relief knowing Silovs isn't dealing with anything serious. Silovs has a 6-2-1 career regular-season record in the NHL and went 5-5 in last year's playoffs while filling in for Demko.

Thatcher Demko Expected To Miss Preseason

Vancouver Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko (knee) will reportedly not be ready for training camp or preseason, according to CHEK's Rick Dhaliwal and Thomas Drance of The Athletic. Demko is also considered questionable for the regular-season opener on Oct. 9 versus Calgary, but the team hopes to have him available by then. The Canucks No. 1 continues to rehab a knee injury, which limited him to only one playoff appearance last season. Arturs Silovs did a good job filling in for him. Fantasy managers should have him on their radar in case Demko remains on the shelf for the start of the season.

Thatcher Demko Remains Without Clear Timeline

Vancouver Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko (knee) is progressing but remains without a clear timeline when he will return to full health. Demko missed time near the end of the regular season last term and was limited to only one playoff outing due to a knee injury. His unclear status means Vancouver might look for a new goaltender for the start of 2024-25. Speaking during a recent appearance on Halford & Brough, Canucks insider Rick Dhaliwal noted that he wouldn't be surprised if the Canucks continue to "poke around" the goalie market. Starting the season without Demko would be a big blow for Vancouver. The 28-year-old was named a Vezina Trophy finalist for his performances in 2023-24 when he finished 35-14-2 with a 2.45 goals-against average and a .918 save percentage.

Filip Hronek Signs $58 Million Deal With Canucks

Vancouver Canucks defenseman Filip Hronek has signed an eight-year, $58 million extension with the team. He was set to become a restricted free agent before agreeing to a new deal. Hronek, a former second-round draft pick of the Detroit Red Wings, had his first full season with the Canucks in 2023-24, becoming a key cog in defense, playing next to Quinn Hughes. He set several career highs during a 48-point campaign, and the 26-year-old finished just outside the top 10 in the league with a plus-33 rating across 81 games. Hronek, who will carry a $7.25 million cap hit with the extension, has totaled 205 points (35 goals, 170 assists) in 390 career games with 378 blocks and 514 hits. He has formed a well-working partnership with Hughes, and the two should offer a lot of fantasy value to managers again in the next campaign.

Sam Lafferty And Ilya Mikheyev Drawing Into Game 7 Lineup

Vancouver Canucks forwards Sam Lafferty and Ilya Mikheyev (undisclosed) will draw back into the lineup for Game 7 against the Edmonton Oilers on Monday. Lafferty will replace Vasily Podkolzin, who will be a healthy scratch, and will play on Vancouver's fourth line. Mikheyev will do his best to replace Brock Boeser (blood clotting) on the Canucks top line alongside J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson, who have been reunited for this winner-take-all game. It wouldn't be a surprise to see Mikheyev get shifted around during the game, especially if the line gets off to a slow start. Still, he makes for a solid DFS play tonight.

Thatcher Demko Unavailable For Game 7, Arturs Silovs Will Start

Vancouver Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko (knee) will not be available for Game 7 against the Edmonton Oilers on Monday. Demko has missed all but the first game of the Canucks playoff run with a knee injury, and although head coach Rick Tocchet has expressed optimism that their star netminder will return soon, it won't happen Monday. Arturs Silovs will be Vancouver's starter, and although he's had his ups and downs this postseason, he's provided much more than the Canucks could've ever hoped for from a third-string goalie.

Brock Boeser Out Indefinitely With Blood Clots

Vancouver Canucks winger Brock Boeser (blood clotting) won't play in Game 7 on Monday due to a blood clotting issue. Thankfully, the injury is not career or life-threatening for Boeser, but the star winger won't be able to play in Monday's winner-take-all game against the Edmonton Oilers and is unlikely to return at all these playoffs, even if the Canucks manage to advance. It is an extremely tough break for Boeser and the Canucks, who will miss the 27-year-old and his 12 points (seven goals, five assists) in 12 games. Vancouver will shift Conor Garland onto the powerplay while their entire forward lineup gets a shake-up in Boeser's absence.

J.T. Miller Scores Dramatic Game-Winner

Vancouver Canucks forward J.T. Miller scored a huge game-winning goal in Thursday's 3-2 victory against Edmonton, finding the back of the net with only 33 seconds left in regulation. Vancouver fell behind twice on home ice in the game, but Miller's late heroics gave the team a 3-2 series lead. It was only fitting that it came from him, as 2023-24 has been a massive year for Miller. After posting his first 100-point campaign during the regular season with 37 goals and 66 assists, Miller is tied with Brock Boeser for most playoff points on the Canucks roster. The first-year All-Star has managed 12 points (three goals, nine assists) in 11 playoff postseason appearances.

Ilya Mikheyev Dealing With Undisclosed Injury

Vancouver Canucks winger Ilya Mikheyev missed Thursday's Game 5 against Edmonton with an undisclosed injury. Initially, he was believed to be a healthy scratch for the game, but Sportsnet's Dan Murphy has reported that the Russian winger is actually "banged up." Mikheyev has had a rough time in the 2024 postseason, going scoreless with 11 shots on goal in 10 games and carrying a minus-four rating. His lack of form has also negatively impacted Elias Pettersson, who has spent a lot of time skating with Mikheyev. Pettersson was paired with Elias Lindholm and Nils Hoglander on Thursday. He notched an assist as the Canucks moved one win away from the Conference Finals with a 3-2 victory.

Carson Soucy Returns From Suspension In Game 5

Vancouver Canucks defenseman Carson Soucy will be back in the lineup on Thursday against Edmonton after serving a one-game suspension. The physical blue-liner missed Tuesday's 3-2 loss to Edmonton after being slapped with a suspension for cross-checking Oilers captain Connor McDavid to the face in Game 3 of the series. Soucy will be back on the second defensive pairing with Tyler Myers. He has posted four assists in nine postseason appearances with nine blocks and 27 hits.

Vasily Podkolzin Makes Stanley Cup Playoffs Debut Thursday

Vancouver Canucks right wing Vasily Podkolzin is projected to make his Stanley Cup Playoffs debut in Game 5 against the Oilers on Thursday. He skated on the fourth line Thursday morning. Podkolzin had a disappointing regular-season campaign with zero goals and two assists in 19 outings. The 22-year-old did much better in the minors, notching 28 points (15 goals, 13 assists) in 44 games. The Canucks are making multiple changes to the lineup on Thursday, with Linus Karlsson, Sam Lafferty, and Ilya Mikheyev sitting as healthy scratches. Podkolzin is penciled in to skate with Nils Aman and Phillip Di Giuseppe, who's missed two games for personal reasons.

Nils Hoglander Returns To Canucks Lineup In Top-Six Role

Vancouver Canucks left wing Nils Hoglander will re-enter the lineup on Thursday against Edmonton. He's been a healthy scratch for the last two games but gets a fresh opportunity. Hoglander is poised for a top-six role, replacing Ilya Mikheyev, who will land in the press box after going scoreless in all 10 playoff games this year. With him on zero goals and one assist, things haven't gone great for Hoglander either in the postseason. But he will get a big chance to impress on Thursday, playing next to Elias Lindholm and Elias Pettersson.

Nikita Zadorov Fined $5,000 For Cross-Check

Vancouver Canucks defenseman Nikita Zadorov has been fined $5,000 for cross-checking Connor McDavid in Sunday's Game 3 of the second-round series against the Edmonton Oilers. It's the maximum allowable fine under the collective bargaining agreement. Zadorov cross-checked McDavid from behind after the final buzzer. Vancouver will be happy to know Zadorov escaped the incident without a suspension, unlike fellow blue-liner Carson Soucy, who will be forced to sit out Game 4 for his involvement in Sunday's end-of-the-game scrum. Zadorov has been a huge force for the Canuck at both ends of the ice this postseason, posting seven points (four goals, three assists) with 14 blocks and 30 hits in nine appearances.

Carson Soucy Suspended For One Game

Vancouver Canucks defenseman Carson Soucy has been suspended for one playoff game. The 29-year-old will be forced to miss Game 4 of the second-round series against Edmonton after cross-checking Oilers captain Connor McDavid to the face during a scrum at the end of Game 3 on Sunday. Vancouver loses a big presence at the back, with Soucy boasting 27 hits through nine postseason appearances. He's also occasionally helped out on the offensive end, delivering four assists.

Quinn Hughes Registers Two Helpers In Game 3 Win

Vancouver Canucks defenseman Quinn Hughes recorded his third multi-point postseason game of the year on Sunday, helping the team get past Edmonton 4-3. Hughes dished out a pair of power-play assists to Elias Lindholm. The star defenseman has been inconsistent with his offensive production in the playoffs but is close to averaging a point per game, with eight assists registered across nine outings. Five of the helpers have come with the man advantage. Following Sunday night, Hughes has had points in back-to-back games for the first time in these playoffs.

Brock Boeser Leads The Way In Sunday's Win With Three Points

Vancouver Canucks right wing Brock Boeser recorded a game-high three points as the team defeated the Oilers 4-3 on the road Sunday night. The 27-year-old scored two goals and produced one assist, with the Canucks getting a 2-1 lead in the fascinating series. Boeser did all of his scoring in the first period, notching his assist when Elias Lindholm struck on a power play. The two are only the fourth pair of Canucks teammates over the last 30 years to each score multiple goals in a postseason game. Boeser is riding a four-game point streak and has had a good time throughout the playoffs, notching seven goals and four assists in nine outings.

Nils Aman Poised For Stanley Cup Playoffs Debut Sunday

Vancouver Canucks center Nils Aman is set to make his Stanley Cup Playoffs debut in Game 3 against the Oilers on Sunday. He's in line to replace Phillip Di Giuseppe in the lineup, who was away from the team on Sunday for personal reasons. Aman, a former sixth-round draft pick, skated in 43 games during the regular season, scoring three goals and delivering four assists. The Swedish forward is projected to skate on the fourth line with Teddy Blueger and Sam Lafferty.

Nils Hoglander Set To Be Scratched For Game 3

Vancouver Canucks left wing Nils Hoglander is expected to be a healthy scratch for Game 3 against Edmonton on Sunday. After enjoying a solid regular-season campaign, he's struggled to perform in the playoffs. The Swedish winger ranked fourth on the team with 24 goals and managed 36 points across 80 appearances. During the postseason, Hoglander has been limited to one assist in eight games. Linus Karlsson is expected to make his Stanley Cup Playoffs debut on the second line on Sunday.

Dakota Joshua Enjoys Three-Point Outing In Big Comeback

Vancouver Canucks forward Dakota Joshua led all skaters with three points as the team defeated Edmonton 5-4 in Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals Wednesday night. The 27-year-old scored his squad's first goal and delivered two assists when Vancouver sparked into life late in the game to turn a 4-1 deficit into a victory. This marks Joshua's second three-point effort of the 2024 postseason. The two big performances have put him among the Canucks' top scorers, with Joshua on seven points (three goals, four assists) through seven games with Brock Boeser and J.T. Miller.
