Zeev Buium Has Two Points in Canucks Debut

Vancouver Canucks defenseman Zeev Buium made his team debut in Sunday's 2-1 victory against the New Jersey Devils, contributing a goal and an assist. He left a strong impression on Canucks fans, helping Vancouver get a couple of power-play goals in the first period. With this performance, Buium became the first defenseman in franchise history to notch multiple points in the opening period of his debut. Buium logged 2:33 of action with the man advantage and played a total of 19:50. He had two shots on goal, blocked one shot, and handed out one hit. All season, the bulk of Buium's offensive output has come on the power play, with 10 of his 16 points scored in those situations. The 20-year-old currently shares the rookie lead in power-play points with Matthew Schaefer of the New York Islanders.

Canucks Acquire Zeev Buium From Wild

The Vancouver Canucks acquired defenseman Zeev Buium from the Minnesota Wild on Friday. The Wild traded away Buium, along with center Marco Rossi (lower body), left wing Liam Ohgren, and a 2026 first-round pick, to land defenseman Quinn Hughes. Buium is in the middle of his rookie campaign and has flashed potential by recording 14 points (three goals, 11 assists) in 31 appearances. He is tied for seventh in scoring among first-year players. Going forward, Buium should be able to improve his output, as he will have a larger role on Vancouver's blue line.

Zeev Buium Misses Practice With Upper-Body Injury

Minnesota Wild defenseman Zeev Buium (upper body) didn't practice on Friday, Sarah McLellan of The Minnesota Star Tribune reports. The 19-year-old sat out the session after getting hurt during the first day of training camp on Thursday. Wild head coach John Hynes doesn't believe Buium is dealing with a serious issue, so he could still be ready for action when the team starts its preseason slate on Sunday against the Winnipeg Jets. Jonas Brodin (upper body) is expected to miss the start of the season after surgery in the offseason, giving Buium a chance to play a bigger role if he's healthy.

Zeev Buium Aims for Big Role Next Season

Minnesota Wild defenseman Zeev Buium wants to be a significant contributor on the team next season. "I do think that there is an opportunity for me to step in and be a player on the team," Buium told NHL.com. "And for me, I don't just want to be a guy who's out there -- [I want to] help this team win. So yeah, I'm going to do whatever I can to do that." The 19-year-old made his NHL debut last season, skating in four postseason games. While playing for the University of Denver, he was named the NCHC Player of the Year and the NCHC Offensive Defenseman of the Year. Buium was a scoring machine with Denver over two seasons, notching 98 points (14 goals, 74 assists) in 83 games. It might take some time before Buium can produce consistent offense at the NHL level, but he certainly has all the tools to become a major asset for the Wild.
