Filip Chytil Available for Season Debut Thursday

Vancouver Canucks center Filip Chytil (shoulder) will make his 2026-27 debut in Thursday's matchup with the Florida Panthers. This will be his first regular-season appearance since Feb. 2. Chytil has dealt with several health issues and missed the start of this season with a shoulder injury. He will center the third line on Thursday night and skate with the second power-play unit. While Chytil isn't a flashy player, he's averaged close to 0.5 points per game in his career, which gives him some fantasy appeal. Arshdeep Bains will sit as a healthy scratch to accommodate Chytil's return.

Vancouver Canucks center Filip Chytil (shoulder) landed on Injured Reserve Friday. The move is retroactive to Sept. 24. Chytil hurt his shoulder in a preseason game against the Edmonton Oilers. Vancouver Canucks center Filip Chytil (face) is healthy entering the new campaign. "I feel good. It was long, since I had [an] offseason since February, so I had a lot of time to focus on certain things, and I think it went well off the ice and on the ice as well," Chytil said on Wednesday after scrimmaging with the team. "I'm ready for [the] season." Chytil has a lengthy history of health issues and suffered a season-ending facial fracture in February. He suited up just 12 times in 2025-26 and will be a new signing for the Canucks this season. Chytil is penciled in for a middle-six role in Vancouver and will likely skate on the second power-play unit.

According to Frank Seravalli of DailyFaceoff.com, the Vancouver Canucks are acquiring center Filip Chytil from the New York Rangers in return for J.T. Miller. In this trade, the Canucks also acquired Victor Mancini and a 2025 conditional first-round selection. In addition to Miller, the Canucks also shipped Erik Brannstrom and Jackson Dorrington to New York. Chytil has spent his entire NHL career with the Rangers after being selected with the 21st overall pick in the 2017 NHL Draft. In 2022, Chytil tallied a career-high 45 points (22 goals, 23 helpers) across 74 games. However, the 25-year-old has struggled to stay on the ice as he has battled numerous injuries. This season, Chytil has scored 11 goals with nine assists across 41 games. He will likely spend time on the third line with his new club and will only have value in deeper formats.
